TYRES

Post by RENNSPORT CLASSICS »

Just putting a feeler out for tyres.

I have just purchased and imported 20 Dunlop Sport Classic Tyres, 10 of each of 185/70 VR 15 and 215/60 VR 15. The Dunlop Sport D40 were the high rated tyres originally fitted to the majority of UK supplied 2.7 RSs and RSTs in 1972/3 and the 185/70 VR 15 for some T E and S models although other brands were also fitted, namely Michelin and Pirelli.

The Dunlop Sport Classic was a modern replacement for the D40 tyre. I have seen prices of the 215/60 VR15 size advertised for £495.00 each !

If there is demand (it only works if I buy and collect in bulk) ? I can supply the 185/70 size at £150 and the 215/60 at £195 each. The caveat is the tyres are 2017 and 2019 dated respectfully. They are however brand new have been stored according to Dunlop standards for doing so and still covered the 10 year warranty of performance. So even 2017 dated tyres have two years they are guaranteed to perform as per the manufactures specification.

In general when tyres are available for early Porsches they are either not the same size, have modern names, modern tread patterns or are obscure brands. Most importantly they are often not available in anything higher than an H rating (120mph).

The exception is the Michelin XWX and Pirelli PN36 range of tyres that have been reproduced but at over £1200 a set these are expensive.

If you do your own research finding an original set at £600 for an E T or S or less than £700 for an RS is not easy.

So is this an opportunity to upgrade to a fresher set of tyres from a period approved supplier ? If you think so then express your interest by sending me an email to tyres@rennsportclassics.eu or text/WhatsApp me on 07774 911959.

Other Sizes

There is also a limited supply of other sizes such as 165 and 185/80 VR 15 for earlier 2.0 cars and 356's and 14 rim sizes. There are also some Porsche approved tyres for more modern models and other makes. Let me know what you need, competition control tyres for the now defunct Renault Twingo championship are available too so please ask you never know.

Tyres are available to collect from Betchworth near Dorking. Shipping is extra and depends on post code. There are companies that specialise in moving tyres. Parcel Hero quote from £28.00 to £49.00. Paisley freight similar prices. I also have a Fedex account and can provide a quote as I have a bulk tariff account I setup for seats.
