Air conditioning for 911T 71 RHD
The weather is increasingly hot and I am planning to install air conditioning for my 911T. What I want is air conditioning which is comparable to modern cars but the installation will not affect the appearance of my car.
My car is not fitted with any factory air conditioning currently. Any advice please?

If you don't insist on 100% originality, I would definitely recommend Jonny's system. It is a lot lighter than stock, will be cheaper compared to new/refurbished factory pieces, all the weight is up front, installs in about 3 days without drilling any holes other than for a bracket or two etc.
As hot as it is right now I would still recommend to wait a bit and get the upcoming version that will also have heat, so you can get a cheap set of regular headers, get rid of the flapper valves ets.

I fitted mine a few years ago now (an earlier version that the one available today) & it makes a huge difference.
Due to limitations on the size of blower, it won’t have the cold air rush of a modern car, but will keep you nicely cool.

Hi Nick, for your requirements, any 'factory' kit for an early car (or copies thereof) WILL affect the appearance of the car since they all add a row of nasty looking vents along the knee pad. Most kits in period were installed by US dealerships and required holes to be cut in the bodywork. You also have the ugly and heavy engine driven compressor and associated pulleys/belts plus the pipes running back and forward along the car. All hideous IMO. On top of all that, I have NEVER seen a factory RHD kit in 15 years of doing this so the chances of finding parts are pretty much nil.Nick C wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 6:49 am The weather is increasingly hot and I am planning to install air conditioning for my 911T. Our kit uses the existing vents under the dash (but subtly modified/redirected) to blow air towards you even though you cannot see them unless you are on your hands and knees.
Because we use an electric compressor, this along with all the other parts are mounted in the front luggage bay and the whole lot is hidden when the carpet is in place. There is also no need to cut holes in your car which IS required with the 'factory' kit. The engine needs an uprated alternator but this is invisible once installed.
Regarding the 'comparable to modern cars', well almost. Unfortunately, old cars like 911s are leaky, non-insulated tin cans with no UV reflective glass or heat-rejecting materials. Modern cars rely on all those things working together with the AC to provide comfort. As an analogy, if you put a modern central heating system in a drafty old house with no insulation, results may vary. Having said that, you still feel pretty smug cruising with the windows UP on a 30 degree day without a bead of sweat.
We just had a tot up last week - incredibly there are over 2000 systems in service.
Give us a ring!
