Colours 1966 911

Post by 32FlatSix »

Can anyone confirm if this colour is Bahama Yellow please? The bonnet is off a 1966 911S purchased and used in its day for rallying, but it ( the bonnet) has been burnt out in a fire. I'm trying to revive it and want to get the colour correct. It looks more like an orange to me and contemporary reports said 'bright orange', but I can't see anything orange on charts for that time.

Any opinions are welcome.

I'm sure 210bhp will confirm but it looks like Bahama Yellow (Code 6605) and it was a 1966 colour.

Looks like bahama yellow to me too. This would be a 67S built in late 1966?

Can you confirm if this is from a rhd car?

Regards
Mike

Slightly off topic but I’d be interested to know whether we reckon the colour Georg Loos used on his cars was also Bahama Yellow (or at least very close to it) as we’re going to need to get some for my S-R…

No those are more yellow, but then they are old pictures, so you do not know what the developing technique was back then. Bahama Yellow is more a light mustard for want of a better description

Ok, thanks. I’m hopefully going to see the 512M at Tom Hartley Jr soon and will take some Porsche paint swatches with me to try and get as close a match as possible…

Thanks all for your kind replies, I'll go with Bahama Yellow then and that's what Porsche records say the car was delivered with. It was RHD, Chassis number was 11800217, which evidently is a 1968 Chassis number although it left the factory in October 1967 and was sold and delivered in 1967. The car was delivered with "Rally Specification" , the bonnet had Pallas Pods but I don't know if that was from the factory or fitted after.

The car itself seems to have disappeared in the late 70's, all that's left as far as I know is the bonnet and one roadwheel both of which I have.

Note I was wrong in my title saying 1966, it was 1967!

Bahama Yellow (Code 6605) was also a MY 1968 colour. October 1967 would make it a MY 1968 car.
