912 Ownership experience

I'm regretting selling my 911 SC at the end of last year
I've been looking around for another air-cooled car at a few 912s have cropped up on my radar.
Just wondering what they're like to live with?
Prices seem to start about £35k with most considerably more, does that sound correct?
Any help/advice appreciated!

from what i've seen a decent 912 is going to cost you closer to £60k, thats a turn key one and then work down from there. But they do seem to be in the same price bracket as IB 911's which are better equiped and quicker. All depends what you want.

You need to drive one really. A 911 they ain’t. Being something of a legendary wheelman I’d much prefer a tatty SC to a tatty 912. But for pub trips a 912 is much prettier.

If you have the £60k for a nice 912 you’re really only a whisker away from a less nice early 911.

I actually drove one yesterday! Different from the 3.2 Carrera and SC I had recently (I have had a ‘72 2.4 previously as a daily driver as well).
To be honest for what I’d use it for it would be fine but I’m worried there would always be that “it’s not a 911” feeling.
It wasn’t £60k and I think if I was in that ballpark I’d definitely be looking at something else I think.

I looked at several 912's ~ 18 months ago - both here in the UK & in the Netherlands &, although some of them were very nice, the sellers weren't prepared to budge on the asking price even though the cars had been advertised at the same price for months.

I'd previously owned a '69 912 in amazingly original condition ~ 20 yrs ago (when they were typically half the price of an equivalent condition early 911) & found it difficult to come to terms with the current prices ...

Sounds to me like you ought to give it a go.

So long as you buy sensibly you can always sell up for about what you paid.

Have you spoken to MAX at Revival Cars he would be the go to expert about 912’s and also a member of this forum. He always has 912’s in stock and you get an honest appraisal from him.

I think you’ve summed it up when you said it will be fine for what you want from it. Forget comparing it to a 911SC - they’re like a fast, sorted Karmann Ghia or a slightly larger 356 - their own character and driving experience

I'm doubtful too that you can get a 912 for £35k that does come with some bit problems. However, great cars
