3.2 carrera interior door pockets

Hi all.

After several years owning a number of early swb 911s i decided it was time to experience a slightly more modern 911. So I pulled the trigger on a 88 3.2 carrera. The car is went for was a 88 club sport , I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time and managed to secure a car formerly owned for over 20s by a former F1, and 24 hours of lemans driver, Mike Wilds.

The Club sport was porsches attempt at building a lighter 3.2. Without underseal, they were around 60kg lighter than a std 3.2. A number of the weight savings focused on the interior, from rear seat delete, lightweight carpets, manual windows and even removal of the passenger sun visor.

My car is in great condition, but will go through a suspension refresh later this year. One minor item which is requiring a bit of attention are the door pockets, porsche didn't fit the lids on the club sport, another weight saving.....the plastic brackets on both door cards are broken. Can anyone help with providing the correct part numbers, or if you have a spare air sitting around that would be great.

If you struggle to find new parts you could also repair it yourself or find a specialist that uses one of these. They are quite effective for this kind of thing

I think to keep the originality I would just plastic weld the cracks and lightly sand down any excess. Plastic has probably become brittle over the years, and looks like the screws have been over tightened to cause the stress cracks downwards and bits to break off at the top?

They always crack, I'd epoxy a piece of ali to the existing plastic part, then spray it black. If you cut and trim it accurately I doubt anyone would notice. It would also be an upgrade.

I think Id fix those door bins.
I've posted because I've just recently been reskinning some water damaged door cards and trying to keep original look of a 3.3 turbo
Can definitely be repaired and a light coat of plastic Trim paint to finish.

You can get aftermarket replacements about £300+VAT a pair
Porsche want £460+ each
...but I think both only in Black unless you may be able to special order through factory (LONG) or have them trimmed to suit by someone like Southbound.
Some of these images it looks like Blue carpet others in Black
I've found blue ages/fades with UV. New items in will look very "new" against original parts.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

My preference was to just try and source replacement plastic brackets, the carpet on the pockets i would like to retain as its quite specific to the CS, a certain pile and lightweight material.

I think the idea of repairing the plastic is probably the best way forward

I’ve done what Ian recommended with that same plastic welder, and if you weld from the other side you won’t see the metal pins or any welded plastic. Just don’t try and weld the side you can see in your photos.

Another option but costly is to buy new door bins. I bought a pair from southbound that were fibreglass pockets with black metal bracket which look identical to the black plastic ones, but only on touching them you realise they are metal and therefore won’t ever crack again.

I can also give you the details of the guy that buys all the mint parts from Singer uk, and he’ll have. Mint pair of black pockets although you’ll need to make sure it’s the same black carpet as there are a few variants of black and generally the 964 black won’t match your car.

Love the car it's a joy to drive, probably the best air cooled 911 i have driven. 1200 miles in first 6 months of ownership which may not sound like much, but quite a few miles for me. Even managed to take the car around Oulton Park during last months rs track day.

Just a thought but if unobtainable, perhaps taking the existing part, scanning it and getting a few 3D printed?

I have a nice pair of door pocket hinged lids if you're considering that as a simple way of hiding that cracked plastic. Cheers, Al
