Hello guys,
Paint is now going on my 911. Can you guys tell me how much body colour is generally used on a 69. It’s a standard colour not metallic.
Light ivory.

I think the answer to that one depends on the type of paint used, and the quality you are paying for. Only person to give an estimate would be the actual painter imho.
My super cheap respray 4 years ago was in 2K paint, solid colour and I think he used 5 litres, but could be wrong. He gave me back the remainder for 'future use' after an accident etc for perfect (ish) match.
He repainted the shell on the cheap, cost me £1500 all in, prep, materials, labour.
Came out surprisingly well.
If your aim is a 10/10 finish as Gary71 who went in that direction and may know how much went onto his killer 911.

Re: How many litres of paint generally for a respray
Hi there,
Just checked and I got through 7.5 litres. The top coat is the cheap bit compared the rest of the materials and effort that goes in so not worth scrimping on. I'm sure professional painters would say that they use less but I was generous with the coats. Personally next time I would buy 10 liters to have a good supply for future use.
Just to give some idea cost, I was at a specialists recently in the south east who told me that they'd had their first quote back for full paint of a bare restored shell and pannels that hit £30K.
Although £30k seems excessive after doing my own paint I can see how £20k could be justified given the hours that go in, especially if you have to warranty the job.

Re: How many litres of paint generally for a respray
Hi Guys
I've just painted my 71T shell in pastel blue. I've used 4L of 2K + hardener and thinners, painting all the removable panels inside and out and the same with the inside and outside of the shell. The outer surfaces were then been blocked down to make sure any minor ripples/defects were removed before it was re-coated it in basecoat and clear to give everything a 'deep' finish. For this I used 2.5l waterbase basecoat and 2.5l clearcoat, again plus hardener and thinners.
