Wiring help

Post by Huds71j »

Hey folks - i am hoping you folks can give me some help?
Just finished my 71 911 Targa resto and i have a weird glitch with the indicators (turn signals) - they work with the ignition off but not with it on.
I have what looks to be a non standard 2 pole flasher unit under the dash which takes its feed from the yellow wire off the ignition barrel.
1st question is do they normally have a separate flasher unit for the indicators and 2nd, do they usually use the yellow wire ?
Thanks in advance

Sounds to me like you have them connected to an auxiliary supply that is live when off and dead when the ignition is on. The flasher unit is used for both the indicators and hazard warning lights. It’s normally a three pin flasher, the third pin is used for the tell tale lights on the tach.

When the ignition is on and you switch the flashers do the side lights come on one side?

Well after much head scratching with the wiring diagram i found that there was some previous dodgy wiring - i fixed that, wired as it was per the diagram and hey presto the indicators and hazards now work. I even got the hazard switch bulb working at the same time. Happy days !
