Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I think the allegro had the funny hydrolastic suspension, and they often seemed to be over-pumped on the rear or lop sided. And I obviously don’t need to mention the square steering wheel.
That Marina above is the racy TC coupe….often in an aubergine colour, quite racy in a BL kind of way…

I quite fancy this as a fun parts hauler….

But probably wouldn’t be much fun being broken down by the side of the road

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
In technical terms, the Allegro was the better car...which doesn't say much about the Marina!
The Marina had possibly the worst handling characteristics of any car built in the latter part of the 20th Century. Its development was hindered by BL's lack of funds, partly down to bad management, partly down to union trouble. If it had MacPherson strut suspension and a properly located rear axle, it might have made it round a few more corners without trying to kill the occupants....

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
My Dad had both. I learned to drive in his bright yellow TC Marina. was absolutely fab although it had the sharpest clutch ever- great for a learner.
Then he got a new Allegro VdP with the hydro-whatsit suspension. It was really rather good, but he preferred the 1800 Tc motor and the kart springs of the Marina.
Then he got an HF 2000 - a whole world of trouble, and very hard for me to drive with it's dog-leg box.
Then a Renault Fuego which I loved to rag about in! Those were the days!

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
When I left school I had a Marina van with oxy acetylene cylinders in the back and went around mot welding cars for a year before i went to uni. My Staffordshire bull terrier sat in the front seat. If you've heard that song in the charts by Ava Max recently it goes "oh she's fit but a psycho..." well that must have been written about my girlfriend at the time. She nicked my diary one time and for a couple of weeks I had no clue what jobs I had on and when, and no phone numbers for all my customers. She took me to Sheffield to try the strongest beer in the world, only she spiked it with her antidepressants or something and I had no clue what was going on.Ralph wrote:That is a killers car!rhd racer wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 8:01 pm I quite fancy this as a fun parts hauler….

Some of the repairs I did back then were horrific. One time I replaced all the sills on an old cortina and when I'd finished the doors didn't close any more. I'm laughing now looking back at it but it was pretty awkward.
Going out with her became a living hell but when you're not thinking with your brain... ah, to be young again.

I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

Great pic! Reminds me of seeing Duncan Hamilton's GT40 parked outside his showroom with L-plates on as he was teaching son Adrian to drive... Wish I'd taken a photo.

Pat will like the analogy of GT40 vs Austin Ulster, I might let him learn the 'Drunken Duncan' stories later........

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
The really big one is my son sitting on the floor, the small one is my wife, sitting in the seat, but she has spent many hours, and thousands of miles, learning how to fit in an Ulster.....
