New to me - 1994 993 C2 Manual
I have always liked the 993, moreso than the 964, and whilst I have owned the latter (a tatty C2 manual cab), I have never owned a 993.
Until now! Saw it on facebook, it was relatively cheap (time will tell no doubt), the seller was a really nice, genuine enthusiast and its in a colour that I couldn't resist - slate grey metallic. It has aircon, sunroof, soft back sports seats and rear wiper.
It wears the marks of its 110,000 miles and 28 years and it will need some TLC - most, if not all of which I plan to do myself as I did with the 986 Boxster I bought last year. A lot of the fun is in the challenge for me - learning how to do stuff and not being scared to get stuck in (within reason). It passed its MOT with a pretty clean bill of health which was a relief
Already I am very impressed with it as an all rounder - offering a lot of aircooled 911 joy with a bit more refinement and plenty of grunt.
I really need to buy a portable scissor lift now as I am getting more and more into the joys of DIY maintenance!

Nice colour.
I always wondered how Facebook purchases worked out and the risks involved. Glad to hear it all went to plan.
Enjoy the ride (and your intended preparations).
Regards
Mike

Re: New to me - 1994 993 C2 Manual
That’s a nice looking car. There are still some bargains around in the 993 world if you don’t mind a higher mileage. I bought mine during lockdown, a metallic black C2 manual with 200k on the clock. Perfectly usable as is, but I’ll probably do something fun with it in the future.

Yes, I think they are decent value still if you dont want a "mint" example....and I didnt, as I wouldn't use it, and that would defeat the object.DustyM wrote:That’s a nice looking car. First quick and easy change was to switch the old Sony head unit for a modern, but more in keeping, Blaupunkt.

Bit of leather restoration using Colourlock Classis Grey Filler and Dye. Kit cost £60 and is very easy to use. Clean, sand where needed, fill, sand, apply dye with sponge - 2-3 coats.

I was quoted £750 to do this by one place...they werent going to anything that different based on their quote. It was probably 4-6 hours work in all and all done without removing the seats.

Great result - I've had similar with one of those kits with the grey leather seats in the Boxster

Quite right Raymond- I quite like these and they are still good value - but always in really boring colours. Yellow would be good or even red ( I have enough Orange!)Boydyrs wrote:Had a couple and recently picked this up to replace Speedster.

Re: New to me - 1994 993 C2 Manual
I have been tackling the fairly involved task of changing the upper and lower valve cover gaskets on the 993, both of which were leaking due to the old, hard gaskets.
Untitled by CARMANWAITINGINTHESKY, on Flickr
A couple of excellent write ups on Pelican and Rennlist made understanding the job in hand fairly straightforward. I decided to remove the rear bumper and am replacing the mufflers and catalytic converter
anyway (the mufflers need to come off to do the job). Rusty exhaust bolts meant many Dremel cutting discs and patience. More rusty valve cover bolts and terrible access to some meant I used a variety of tools (some improvised e.g. cut down allen key) to get them off. Passenger side finished - wasnt too difficult....but the driver's side is a fair bit more involved and requires removal of engine bay components, tinware and a great amount of swearing and walking away to a padded room for more swearing.
Satisfying to have done it. I imagine the labour bill would have been fairly substantial.
Now onto an oil change (thanks Porsche for burying one filter under the engine behind various pipes) and fitting some very nice new "RSR" mufflers from Carnewal.
