Billet Sump Plate for 911

Post by AlanS »

I double purchased a billet sump plate with drain plug a while ago (its my age).

Anyway, the one I fitted to my 69 rally car with 2.4 engine has been just great. Note you will need to fit longer studs.

Price, well I paid £70+, but am asking £40 plus £5 shipping, (2nd class parcel post in the UK).

Does it fit with the strainer gauze underneath as per a 78 3.0l?

Yes, the strainer on my engine fitted with the sump extension fitted. I wanted to fit this to allow me to drain the oil easily when on a rally without removing the sump guard.

Just as an aside .................... why on earth would you want to change oil during a rally ??

Good question.
These are marathon, endurance rallies.
The longest was 9 weeks, 10,500 miles, ambient temps of 44C, remote areas. We carry our oil, filters etc. I cooked the oil in death valley and had to change it as the oil pressure dropped once the oil temp was 270F.
In South East Asia it was even hotter, so oil changes on shorter distances are a must. Great fun, but removing the engine protection is a big job, this got over it.

Alan,
Having mulled this over, done some research and taken into consideration I will need to buy gaskets (admittedly needed for an oil change anyway) and studs I am happy to offer £30 plus the postage. Tell me where to go if you feel aggrieved by my cheeky offer

Hi Phil

No problem, I just feel it should be used instead of sitting on my shelf.

I have listed it on eBay, if it doesn't sell, then I will come back to you.

Cheers Alan
