Actually it’s the most common colour. Out of 33 Rhd 68S cars built, 8 were bahama yellow, more than any other colour for the model.

Ralph - I agree seeing a photo of the engine number first would be prudent to say the least!Ralph wrote:Fortuitously the vendor managed to locate the original engine - yeah, right!
I'd look very close at that engine number.......................

Re: 68S
As in you’ve located that engine somewhere else?
If so the auction house needs to know to save a buyer getting in trouble.

Re: 68S
HI Sam, Yes I know where the engine and transmission are, I've already emailed the auction house to inform them but they haven't replied to me - I did when this post first came up. Make of it what you will... but folk should know.Sam wrote:As in you’ve located that engine somewhere else?

Re: 68S
If the engine number and gearbox number have been ‘ re stamped’ to tie in with the COA it makes you wonder about the chassis number and true identity of the car itself?

Re: 68S
I've heard from a few sources that the chassis is bone fide, the history of where and when etc. up to where the car is now, as does the fact that the engine is not original. The auction house dont state the transmission being orignal or not, and I've no sight of the Kardex, I'd think there is a very good chance that the transmission in the car is not original (poss not re-stamped) and as of yet there is no photo of the engine number in the car in question?? By saying the car is "matching numbers" it implies (wrongly) that the engine and transmission match the VIN - which is clearly not the case.....Nine One One wrote:If the engine number and gearbox number have been ‘ re stamped’ to tie in with the COA it makes you wonder about the chassis number and true identity of the car itself?

Re: 68S
There is no accusation by me that the Auctioneers are doing anything wrong. They are simply being instructed by the cars vendor to sell, and it is the vendor that is providing the vehicle information, possibly not knowing the history of the car or and may (or may not) have bought the car as matching numbers - who knows....? I'm sure that if you read "The terms and conditions of sale", for any Auction House they will state that you must check the credentials of the vehicle that you intend to purchase and to that extent buyers should do their own due diligence. Furthermore Autioneers do not have the time to do costly research on eveything they sell. Should I message the Auctioneers again and remind them that the car is not matching numbers or should we leave well alone? - I'm not one for stirring, but neither when I know the car is not as it would seem will I keep this information from our Porsche community.

Re: 68S
Worth posting the info including the chassis and engine numbers on early S too?
(Because it's indexed by Google - hopefully a prospective purchaser would Google...)
