need a new alternator
I have diagnosed a dead alternator on my car. I currently have a lucas lra 00194 but has failed in under 1000 miles and the first one i was supplied with did not work at all.
The haynes says a bosch k1 50 amp should be fitted.
Can anyone recommend a good alternator that be fitted or a supplier for the bosch?

Re: need a new alternator
I got my last one from German, Swedish French and Saunders in June 2003, still on the car and working fine. The part number was 021 903 023 FX, the X means exchange. The GSF number was 90330. It is the 55amp one.

We've got 3 rebuilt Bosch units in stock. We've also been testing a 150A conversion for running electric A/C, heated screen, heated seats etc..

Re: need a new alternator
Well we've got 140BHP (from 2056cc) so there's a bit to spare. Its a modern Denso alternator thats much more efficient than the original and I haven't noticed any difference on the road. Maybe Jonny Hart will come along and explain the technology in a minute.
Next time we do a rolling road run I'll switch everything on and report back if it makes any difference.

Re: need a new alternator
Alternators only produce what is necessary to cover the demand. In other words, a ‘big’ alternator uses no more HP than a small one given the same electrical load.KAS.750 wrote:I think that will dull performance to put it mildly!camperco wrote: We've also been testing a 150A conversion for running electric A/C, heated screen, heated seats etc..
In my 911 I cannot notice any difference in performance when my alternator is supplying 100A continuous.
