PCGB Sticker

Post by Monty43 »

Have done some research but can't find anything conclusive.

My 71T was purchased new from PCGB. Just wondering did they put a sticker on the car before delivery to the new owner ? If so does anyone have a photo thanks

When you say PCGB, do you mean AFN at Isleworth?

From the Porsche UK website:

"The first Porsche was sold in the UK in 1954, by Archibald Frazer Nash (AFN) from premises at Falcon Works, London Road in Isleworth Middlesex.

Two years later, AFN became the sole UK concessionaire for Porsche Cars until 1965 when Porsche Cars Great Britain Limited was formed. A move which successfully separated the importing functions from the sales operations."

If your car had a sticker, it is more likely to have had an AFN sticker than a Porsche Cars Great Britain one. I have seen cars much later than yours with AFN window stickers. However, I don't know if early 70s cars had window stickers or when they were introduced.

Thanks for the post

If someone knows whether AFN continued to sell new 911s ( 65 to 73 ) such comments would be welcome

These are the stickers but I have not seen them on any 65 to 73

Surprising that even Porsche UK would get this so wrong.

First Porsche sold: 1951. Even my original UK sold cab predates their date as it was sold in November 1953.
AFN became sole concessionaires in 1954.
Porsche Cars GB came into existence in 1966 (1st January) but was only involved in wholesale distribution, AFN still dealt with retail so if your car had a sticker it would always be AFN
Porsche bought into AFN and so took over the importing of their cars in 1972.

This thread seems to cover most of the AFN story
