Car storage Query

Post by mjh356@hotmail.com »

Hi All,

I am about to loose my garages and I need to find a place to put the wife's car which is in long term hibernation until I can agree its disposal. So, with that in mind, I need to find somewhere to safely park and store it until further notice.

In London it is hideously expensive, also I do not need access to it other than by weeks of notice. It is SORN'd, so it is going nowhere at short notice.

Can anybody recommend someone honest and reliable where I can store it until further notice. It does not have to be in the SE as perhaps in the Midland or up North where there is more space available and I can get a better rate ? There are loads available on the internet, but, whom to trust ?

All ideas gratefully received.

I have used a friend's professional storage facility in the West Midlands, cheapest I could find (no 'mates rates', his wife runs the money side of it...) but secure and easy trailer access etc.

Westwood Storage in Bromsgrove.

Errrrr….yes, Duncan.
I used to work with an Andrew Duncan, and me being left handed and old, things miss-connect and get slower, bit like my hill climbing ...

I’ve used Aldersfield Classic Storage south of Bury St Edmunds. Rates good and Ian and Tom both great to deal with.

What about Nick from RedTek? I think he is doing car storage now?

.

- plenty of inexpensive storage available if you're prepared to spend time searching.

I rent 2 dry/secure garages (in a compound of 36 garages in a private residential area accessed via padlocked steel gates) for £9 pw each ...

I think I found them via Gumtree.

I work in a classic car storage facility near Shrewsbury but do not have anything to do with that side of the business.

Call Nicki on 01743 761295 http://www.cevl.co.uk/other-services/storage/

I also rent a unit from someone who does car storage near Shifnal, Shropshire. David Sankey 07710 352821

Folks,

Many thanks for the words of wisdom.

Graham, the Westwood Storage looks a good option and is a reasonable price. Thanks for the recommendation. I will be chatting with them when I get a minute. The fact that they can pick the car up transport it and trickle charge it and store it in a decent environment is ideal.

Yoda, Many thanks for the offer. I will look into the Westwood option and will potentially get back to you. I don't want to waste your time at this point.

Andy, Thanks for the thoughts. Around here private decent garages typically rent for £25-30 pw. I have looked and not seen anything suitable in the locale.

Derek, thanks for the lead. I will look it up.

The little fly in the ointment with the situation is that it is Mrs. H's car and she is very attached to it. Currently, she is unable and unlikely to drive it again, but, does not want to get rid of it. I am lumbered with the task of storing and maintaining it in good condition. The idea of it being looked after to a modest degree is appealing as I don't fancy having to deal with leaking roofs, damp, break-ins etc which I have experienced with lock-ups.

There are loads of storage companies on the internet, finding one which people have had good experiences with is really important to me as it is her-in-doors car and if it is to deteriorate in my hands, a certain part of my anatomy would have a blow-torch applies to it.

Thanks for all the help.

Hi - I store cars for people at my farm in mid devon. It is fairly basic 'storage' in a steel barn, but I keep an eye on them, trickle charge etc, and I have my cars in there too. It is very much off the beaten track and I don't advertise... so pretty safe. £10 per week. Cheers, Marc.

I’ve got a unit that’s been used by people doing up old cars for years now. It’s in Nailsworth Gloucestershire and would take about six cars, it’s basic and £75 a week. It has electricity and a loo. It’s about to be vacated.
