1972 Targa- cross tube- what is that part?

Post by cschmueck »

Untitled.jpg
Hello all,

I have been trying to find out what the part 90150108640, "cross tube", is. See part 2 in attached part diagram. When googled, some sources suggest it to be a "rear axle cross tube".
It appears to be a Targa only part and from the looks of it, it is bolted in. I can not find it or it's mounting points on my Targa, neither under the dash where the diagram suggests it to be nor around the rear axle.

Does anyone have a hint?

Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Christian

Why, do you want one?
I have the one taken from my ‘69 Targa

It was bolted under the dashboard. Just above the knee scroll. There were box sections welded to the A-post. I always thought it looked very amateur in implementation.

I had to remove/reinstall mine to get the radio in. I think it's to stiffen the front end. Just a metal bar

Thanks all.
Mike, the pictures are very clear- thanks!
Definitely none in my car. I am actually not sure the welded on tabs are present on my A posts- I will check on the weekend.
Tim, if I find the mounting tabs I would in deed be interested in your bar!

I’ll dig it out. Postage and donations to the charity and you can have it. It also is useful to extend a T-bar on those difficult nuts !!

We have Targas on site at the moment from ‘68, 69, 72 & ‘73.

Only the ‘69 has the cross brace under the dash.

Thanks Angus,
that sounds like a plausible explanation as to why my 72 does not have it....
