Holiday in Argentina

Post by bjmullan »

DDK is full of great information and advice so I'm looking for things I should look out for during my trip to Argentina at the beginning of July related to motoring. Going to Buenos Aires, Patagonia and Cordoba. Even if it's not motoring related your input will be welcome. Will be looking out for a barn find in the suburbs of BA

Based on the current state of play I will not be watching Argentina in the World Cup final from Plaza de Mayo Square!

The National dish, Fray Bentos, should be sampled with the Malbec at every opportunity.

Not only delicious but also an adventure in unexpected bovine anatomy....

Visit the Pur Sang factory, here are two different perspectives on the same place.

Most people go to Patagonia in January Febuary there must be a reason for that! Pur Sang Factory sounds good.

Yes there is, it's going to be cold! Wife is a teacher so this was the only time we could do it. On the other hand Buenos Aires and Cordoba will not be too hot.

Amongst other things Pur Sang build these. Exact replicas of the Targa Florio winning Alfa which has got them into a bit of trouble in the past I believe for being too accurate. This one was for sale last year. and looked like it could be a lot of fun. Very tempting.

I spent 2 months in Argentina in 1982, leaving just before the Falklands invasion. I rode A BMW bike down to Tierra del Fuego (starting from Alaska) and had a great time, if it hadn't been for the invasion I would have stayed a lot longer. You are covering the 3 main attractions, but get up into the Andes if you can (at that time of year). See the penguins in Patagonia and be prepared for very harsh weather, the wind can be very fierce. Spanish was essential in those days apart from in BA, but I guess things will have changed a lot since then. You may be surprised how Anglophile they are there.

Nick, that sounds like a fantastic trip, reminiscing of the journey the Scottish fans made to Argentina in 1978 from the USA! While in Cordoba I will visit the stadium where Peru beat then 3 - 1 and shattered their dreams.

Do you have any pictures?
