964 Carrera 2 1990
Welcome to the family !
Some of you might remember that I posted this car in the For-sale section last year on behalf of a Friend. Bob sadly passed away in December after losing his battle with cancer and since then I had been helping his wife sell his 964. The situation was obviously abit delicate and we reached a point when she put the sale at the back of her mind. Fast forward afew weeks ago and we reconnected with the view of selling the car as Spring/Summer was upon us. I had started the car over winter but had never actually driven it...So last weekend I went back to the underground parking lot with Oil, filters, fresh fuel, air compressor etc. The car started with no problems and we moved it outside...the sun was shiny and I went for a drive. To say I fell in love with the car is an often used cliche, but well, I did ! I have only ever driven an old Porsche and SWB's at that, there was a strange familiarity but also much more modern and tight...A/C, electric windows and a sunroof are all new Porsche experiences to me, not to mention the power delivery
To cut a long story short I drove it to my house and made Mrs Jury come and look at it...she sensed where all this was going but agreed that the colour was nice. O'yes the colour...Velvet Red, a metallic which is difficult to catch on Camera and not quite as saturated as Rubystone, much more Pink in reality...which I am cool with !
Carried on driving and eventually had to give it back, but I was hooked...and afew hours later I was the proud owner. Emotional for a number of reasons.
Picked it up on Saturday and started to go over in more detail. Afew small projects planned, some new oil lines, valve gaskets and valve adjust, fuel filter, new tyres, Oregon blue plates, also maybe try find some Cup 1's and paint anthracite (personal touches), but other than that just going to enjoy it in the way Bob would have approved...plus I can take the kids to school in it and then use the scenic route to work
Will update thread as and when...especially the bit about turning a 2 car garage into 3 !
The F-word to cancer...Onwards!
Chris

Looks like it was one of those meant to be things. Lovely colour, it's one of those cars that'll put a smile on your face every time you take a seat.

Re: 964 Carrera 2 1990
Great story with a fitting end.
Love the colour - I came close to buying a similarly-coloured 964 at the end of lasy year (but was too slow making up my mind).

Re: 964 Carrera 2 1990
Great stuff, Chris - a good home for your friend's car.
Welcome to the new old Porsche experience. I really like 964s and 993s - still have that lovely recognisable old Porsche feel, but so usable.
