Still, it hasn't all been frustration.....
One of the things I've lusted after ever since he produced them is a Ben Cole's fan housing and correct fan strap......
....there was nothing wrong with the aluminium fan housing I had and it looked the part however it was clearly reproduction.......Ben's item is a carbon copy of the original plus it's cast in correct magnesium....
...so whilst the engine was out it just made sense! .......

Darren, I don't want to hijack the thread but what track days are you doing and how do you get the noise down with those megaphones?

Re: EKO181K - 1972 Porsche 911T 2.5
Back serviced and balanced the car had a brake fluid change and new pads fitted in preparation for the Oulton Park RS track day....
....it even got a wash....
....and looked as good as ever ......
.....sadly my Oulton Park experience was cut short by a shredded gearbox seal and the car was transported back to Redtek .....

Re: EKO181K - 1972 Porsche 911T 2.5
Now the next part is both scary and I guess ultimately lucky!....
....new gearbox seal fitted and everything rechecked I was due to collect the car pending a final sign-off from Nick, fortunately he was stood at the back of the car when it was started from cold and heard the slighest strange 'noise!' .....
.....the noise disappears as soon as there's a little warmth in the engine. Tappets, tensioners and everything else rechecked proved good, a leak down test showed less than 2% leakage from each cylinder which was obviously positive however a scope inside the engine shows a very slight touching by one of the pistons!
The downside is the engine back out and heads off to be checked and fixed, the upside is that the core is strong without any sign of debris or bearing damage.......a dodgy gearbox main seal may have messed up my RS track day but it may well have saved my engine!
Fingers crossed I'll have the car back in time for Spa!
Cheers,

...mmm, looks pants!
Can only post 800 wide x 600 high (this image was actually 600 x 800 pixels so had to rotate image to make it work)........attachment box also looks rubbish.
Maybe Flickr is the only option!
