An ugly pastiche back then and time has not improved it's questionable aesthetics.

If you look at many of the 'custom cars' built back then, many many had questionable looks (and build quality) as people struggled to emulate the USA.
There were very notable exceptions, Nick Butler, John Baldachino (sp?) Simon Lane etc who started with good base cars and knew how to take them forward.

Those car can stand the test of time and current perspectives well imho.
I started with my Y type Ford having seen John Wilkinson's (a good friend at the time) and tried to get it as much like a 34 ford as my skills and money would allow.

Small Fry, knock-out at the time.

I was an avid reader of all the custom car mags in my teens in the late 70's/early eighties. I've always loved Hot rods, customs and American stuff generally but never had one.
I got my Dad to take me to shows. I can remember Belle View in Manchester, Doncaster, Nostel Priory.
Maybe it's time to scratch the itch……….
How come old hot roders have become old Porsche lovers???

I was mid build of my Ford Model A chopped Tudor in the late 80's with a very young family and suddenly felt too old to carry on hot rodding.
I built my Y Type in 1973 and had miles and miles of good times with it. It is now in the USA.

I found hill climbing in 1986 and suddenly the 911 arrived to mind, never hankered for one ever before seeing a few hill climbing, esp Josh Saddler.

My first and only 911 arrived on my driveway in 1988 and it's still in my garage, 70K happy happy miles.

Still think of a hot rod again, sell the Boxster and live a bit again, but can I stand the attention it would get?

Could be right. Or wrong.

LYS 807 doesn't appear on DVLA database. LVA 807 is registered as a 1954 5-litre Oldsmobile...
