I assumed the underbody protection would be painted over.... may need a quick call...

Just for reference under floor wasn't although wheel arches and engine bay are body colour on 73's.

However whichever way you go hardly matters as the floor and under arches go black with use anyway.

Knew engine and arches but was never sure on the undersides of the floor pan or above gearbox

Saying that, most resto houses including Porsche themselves fully paint their shells body colour

Nice example of an over resto

A 73 has body colour everywhere including the underfloor. The only black outs were hand painted under the sills which extends a little way into both front and rear inner arches (and also the inside of the front bulkhead and a few areas on the inner floor, edit, and around the door edges).

I don't agree Mike. It makes no rational production sense to flip a car over and paint it underneath.

Nearly everyone paints the underside now and I did the same with my E. Nothing wrong with doing so, I only mention it for factual reference.

A good video showing 73 cars being painted at the factory - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVU3Ym8 ... playerhttp

Indeed it is a 1972. I have no idea whatsoever if there were differences in finishes between the 2 years

Darren, I'm pretty sure my car hasn't had its underside painted ( it has the topside painted) and it's showing body colour all over
