Guys the parked wiper position is for a right hand drive car only. It's also for IVA purposes. If the arms park to the left (looking from drivers position on r/h/d only from inside the car) the sweep of the motor isn't sufficient enough to give the driver a clear view of the road. It only clears half, leaving the other half un-cleared. Very dangerous in wet conditions.
This is why you must reverse the motor to park to the right. So when the wipers are in motion the full drivers view get cleared. Passenger only get half their view cleared but who cares what the passenger sees... No need to swap any wires Ian to do this. It's all mechanical. If you don't know how to I'll post more info on how to do it. Can't be arsed at the mo, it's been a long day...

Morning Rich,
Understand what you mean about clearing the driver side view of rain, whilst looking at my coupe yesterday it all fell into place. Not sure how to mechanically change the direction to the right so if you get five please let us know

So a productive day, today. The wipers have been refurbished and park pointing to the right and work on both speeds. Also completed loads of misc wiring jobs including the new voltage regulator.

Yesterday was another productive day, finally ironed out some of the issues with hand brake cable and lever mechanism, mostly down to adapting the VW beetle to Porsche 944 parts. Also fitted the new leather fuel cell tank straps. It seems the jobs are getting smaller but take longer than expected. More small wiring jobs done.

I have been offered a Tecalemit 4 post car lift with jacking beam which is in great condition. I have drawn the plans up and it looks like I should be able to shoe horn it into place. Given that Porsche 356/ 911 and VW Beetles are all quite narrow (only car allowed entry) should allow space around to open doors etc. I will have to drastically cut down the amount of work bench wanted to allow for the lift, but I think it would be worth it.

Another successful day, great to keep moving forward. Fitted a new 1.5L aluminium windscreen wash tank. The washer motor is an integral part of the tank. I have wired the switch to operate off column stalk. The reversing light is wired in and operates off the gearbox switch. Also cut the fuel tank spill bowl/s, not sure which of the two looks best. I need to add a drain and pipe to underneath the car

I think I prefer the first one, obviously it will need a gasket to seal against the underneath of the bonnet. The second one would need cutting down in height.

Always good to tick things of a list.
I agree the top one. Don't forget the underside of the bonnet isn't flat. So may need to shape to suite.

Managed another day on the electrical side, mostly sorting out cable runs but the fuel gauge and voltage regulator are finished. Still have a host of electrical issues to resolve and check. Plan to generate another list ready for next week when I have another day to work on the car. Mocked up the fuel spill tray with a gasket to seal under the bonnet, which is now ready for welding.
Rich - IVA manual states that the daytime running lights must go off when head lights go on. Most modern cars seem to just dim the DRL when the head lights go on. At present the current switch box seems to have a fault so it has a delay then goes off. Got hold of a new unit which mistakenly is a dimmer rather than on/off, hence the question.

I thought it would be very useful to create an electrical check list to ensure I have managed to get everything working;
Electrical cct operation checklist;
Head lights - dip (tell tale light? Not IVA)/ main beam (Blue light IVA)/ flasher
Side lights rear/ front - DRL front Note; DRL on/off – IVA or Dim? when head lights on
Indicators x 6 + tell tale on gauge
3 switches - dim light when side lights on and bright when switch activated
Hazards - operate ignition on or off
Reversing light
Rear fog light + tell tale light on switch
Number plate light activated on sides
horn ignition on/off
Gauges; Fuel level, oil level, oil pressure + Light, oil temperature + Light, tacho, alternator warning, ignition light + individual lights in the gauge on when side & head lights on
Brake fluid level warning light
Brake lights/ switch
Windscreen Wiper two speed + intermittent via delay cct 2/5/10 sec
Heated windscreen / 10 minute delay
Washer bottle / spray
Interior lights
Try as many combinations of components on/off as possible
Starter motor turns over
Voltage regulator charging cct/ battery voltage
Zero current drain

Think you've got everything covered.
Had a look at the manual for DRL spec and there is no amendments stating they can go dimmer once headlights are activated. Only states they switch off. Might be worth a phone call to your local test centre to clarify this and let us know.
