Despite the tracking being totally all over the place, the car drives OK. The engine felt a bit weak until I started to hammer it, and then it felt good. And engine that likes to be ragged! I like those.

Torque is quite good. The cam comes in at around 3000rpm. It sounds great. I wouldn't like to race Darren's 2.5SS Mongrel, but I'm happy with it. Looking forward to giving it some stick once it's properly registered.

The suspension feels a bit firm. I have 911SC torsion bars in the front. Not sure what I have in the back. Either way, I wouldn't mind finding some thinner bars if that would solve the problem.

Discovered why my right-side carb is leaking...

Also decided to re-make the throttle cross-link in stainless steel rod as the aluminium one was flexing a bit.

The paperwork is all off with the DVLA for registration...

That doesn't look too good - good to track down the problem though

Accelerator pump? New ones seem to be utter shite - I've repaired old ones with Plastidip.

Also, how can this be my first post in this thread? I've been reading it since the start! It's looking brilliant, Jamie. Give me a shout when the DVLA give you a number and I'll help with digits if I can. :)

The fuel pump diaphragm arrived. As if the word 'diaphragm' isn't grim enough, I opened the package to discover a small black box branded "Meat & Doria". What the f***? Underneath this logo was the slogan "Innovative DNA parts".

I'd forgotten I'd ordered this thing, so I opened it very carefully, expecting something nasty and medical to fall out.

Alas, it was a diaphragm. Not an organic diaphragm, but a clean, dry item made of rubber and metal.

I fitted it to the leaky right-hand carb, turned the ignition on to run the fuel pump, and all is well. No leaks.

Still waiting on the registration documents to come through. COME ON DVLA...

Jamie, when I was waiting for mine to go through, I called the helpline number and the lady on the end of the line said 'yes, it's all OK, I expect you'd like to know the number!' – and then told me over the phone. Paperwork arrived a day or two later. So might be worth calling to check on progress.

Cheers Keith. I am away for a few days, but if it's not here when I get back then that's what I'll do.

Next question - where did you get your UK-digit, US-sized plate from?

I had a set - loved them until I got pulled by the rozzers  and made to change them at the side of the road as I had the originals in the boot!

Ha! Nice, but I was thinking more of a UK-style plate (black, silver letters in regulation period UK font), but US sized.

Any ideas? Keith, I think you have one of these on your car...

Like I said, let me know when you have your number and I'll try and help you with digits! :)

You'll not fit more than five motorbike-sized digits on a US-sized 'plate, though. Maybe 6 if you get lucky with an 11 in there. Dubmeister used to be good for import 'plates with the motorbike typeface, which would look decent.

*Just checked and they don't do them anymore. They still do white and yellow ones, though: http://www.platemyride.com/plate-simula ... quantity=1
