You'll have a top notch shell when Barry's finished with it, surely it deserves the same quality of paint finish.

You'll find the reassembly process involving, rewarding and it gets away from cheque book. The paint pros do paint all day and have done for years. It's not something that is easily acquired.

As Darren said though, there are some stunning DIY jobs out there. But they have had a lot of patience and a lot of time spent on them. At least with the re-assembly you can pick it up and drop it off depending on the time you have available. Paint feels like it's one of those commitments that has to be done in one. And there are 5-6 weeks full-time work involved....if you're a pro....

In all fairness Rich has a good point - you will feel plenty involved if you're putting it back together yourself.

On the paint side of things you've got to be prepared to accept second best initially (unless you're incredibly gifted) but if you persevere you'll get there and you'll have an enormous sense of satisfaction if you do. You have to look on the cock-ups as the cost of your lesson. But that all takes time and patience. In relation to my own car I know my paint job isn't great. But similarly it isn't finished yet - and as I revisit it I will get it better each time. In the meantime I'm quite happy to live with it as it looks OK from 10 feet and I know it's all rock solid underneath. It's your call as to whether you can live with it or not.

My wife today said I should have mine repainted by a local shop after doing the body work/paint strip myself.
Only just got off the floor.

I feel a bit disappointed not doing DIY but she says it is worth too much now to mess about.

Sound advice everyone and much appreciated, you have all just played out what's going in my head. I am going with plan A and get the professionals in as no one has said it's easy and all you guys are the experienced bunch so I ought to listen!! I do want a really nice paint job first time round and perhaps foolish to think I have the time and patience to achieve that... It's just so much money anyway that's how it is so got a few irons in the fire

On a positive note I did a countrywide trip this week, dropped off my spare seat sold to Alan at Canfords. Really impressive setup and some gorgeous cars, Alan showed me round and was most helpful with any questions and advice.

Next was a visit to see Barry which is always a total delight. Best decision I ever made and would truly recommend it to anyone. Total piece of mind, workmanship second to none. Only got 3-4 weeks left!!! I'm really going to miss this experience

Last port of call was collecting the wheels from Nick at Early 911. Really pleased with the outcome and again a top bloke and most helpful.
