Craftsmanship.. And unlike restorations with too much new metal and using just replacement panels this is properly saving as much originality as possible

Another master-class. Joyful and instructive to watch. My own, humble efforts have improved at least
100% following Barry's work on these pages. Thanks Barry! John in CT/USA.

I'd agree, that is some seriously great metalwork. Thank you for the photos, I love looking at the progress and at the inner panels of the 911!

Does Barry make the inserts he uses to refurb the torsion tube ends?

Thanks for posting all the photos.

Tom

Thanks guys, have to say I am just so happy with the progress, I remember John when you said how the handling improved after your car had been to Barry. I can't believe what was keeping it all together particularly when driving around the LeMans circuit

Problem, the new torque tube repair section supplied was fabricated incorrectly, the studs were in the wrong place so Barry had to remove them and refit. A little annoying to say the least :(

With torque tube inner area repairs welded in and tidied away, the area was hit with black etch primer. Heater tube blasted and painted before being welded back in position

Small area of corrosion underneath the kidney bowl, it was removed, tiny section made and let in

One of Barry's templates was called into action to mark out a repair panel for the front of the inner wing. A flange was thrown, and this would then guide the Pullmax tooling which made the stiffening bead. The steel was oiled first, and this really helps the machine to produce a good finish, and preserves the tooling.

Also, a new section was made for the inner kidney bowl, therefore allowing much of the original to be retained, giving me a useful reference point for later on.

Just before the old metal of the inner wing was removed, I spotted what looked like the remains of the original outer kidney bowl. Just in case it was, I made a little marker to enable the location of the new kidney bowl to match the old. Of course, if it turns out to be miles out, we'll assume it was a later replacement and ignore it. In the meantime a potentially useful reference has been retained.

Finally, all of the old metal could be removed, making a big difference to the car as this was one of the tattiest areas.
