Before you spend more time removing the screen...I think you will find that all new seals available are now the later type...ie from 964 style or some such other latter era.....and thereby wider than the early cars...I began to notice this looking at original cars only after I replaced mine 8 years ago.....have just looked at mine and yes it is slightly recessed......so I don't know that official seals will install any better....suggest you talk to some of the restorers around the forum...maybe Alan who would use a lot of them......mine hasn't leaked in the intervening time.....so it's tempting to suggest you leave it well alone and edge one step closer to driving it...

Don't forget to adjust the chrome trims to shape the rubber, this will make quite a difference to how the rubber fits particularly in the corners.

I'm about to refit my frt and rear screen with new Porsche rubbers and trims the trims I bought are already pre bent to a shape can you expand on above or any pics of the reshaping to get a better fit, thanks in advance ...

IIRC the corner rads are a compound radius front and rear screen and can complicate the 'fight' into position...

ie they are radius'd in 2 planes.

Once you have the screen fitted the corners may not sit as tight into the frame as you would like so with a piece of wood or similar you can nudge the chrome trim outwards into the corner it will take the rubber with it and stop the rubber curling into the frame or leaving a gap.

It was. First my friend Colin, a journalist, emailed in about the aeroplane (a Vans RV-7) he had built in his shed. Then my friend Jels (the guy, mentioned a few times in this thread, who owns the workshop in which my 912 lived for a while when it first arrived in the UK) emailed-in about the Sprinter campervan he was building in his shed (workshop). Jels and Colin sort of know each other through me. So I sent an explanation, and a picture of the 912. Turns out Mark Radcliffe likes an old Porsche, even if he didn't know.

Was quite good fun.

Two hours installing the windscreen. Cleaned the excess sealant off. Was almost done and looking excellent when I decided to give it a nudge towards the driver's side, and BAM... I cracked it.

Anyone know the absolute cheapest place to get a new windscreen?

I've always liked their show but it never managed to fit in with my life. Most recently I've started using the iPhone radio app and I listen to their afternoon show whenever I'm in the car - great stuff

It was nice that he admittedly knows nothing about cars but instantly got what they are all about - 'before they got all "showey offey" - just kinda cool' - nailed it
