Excellent. Always good to see some proper prep, I used a brush and a tin of silver paint :)

Cheers Gary, here's what I started off with

Covering speaker holes, pleased that the parcel shelf turned out to be pretty much free from rust

The result is far from flawless and it'll never be a show car but I'm pretty pleased what you can achieve on a weeks leave :-)Image

Makes me think I should sort mine whilst the engine is out. However my parcel shelf isn't rust free so the job will get bigger than planned really fast...

Day 6
Got a bunch of stuff done on my last day in Sweden
- Cleaned up and refitted the wiring harness - Properly fiddly stuff to get it past the torsion tube, especially if you've already glued the sound damping matt
- Fitted the SSI's with new nuts
- Fitted new handbrake cables
- Fitted new rear brake hoses and pipes
- Fitted new (all) rubber gators between the tunnel and engine
- Fitted the engine and box

I realise that the fan and pulley looks a bit tatty so will get the fan and housing cromated at a later stage. Is it a difficult job removing the fan and housing now when the engine is fitted?

This picture is a couple of months old but thought I'd show how the deep sixes turned out after refurbishing, new fat TR415 valves and a set of new Vredstein Classics.
Had it done for a very reasonable price by A&P-Schumann Felgen-Service, the result is ok but you can hint polishing marks and uneven masking if looking very closely, anodising looks great and not too shiny.

I was reluctant to get stuck into it as well but reasoned that if I didn't tackle it whilst having the engine out it never get done. Now go convince your son to take care of the grinding and do it!

Not difficult, I've just taken my off with the engine in. The only risk is scratching your newly finished fan & housing on the engine rear mount when trying to fit it. If you take the full shroud off then you can get to everything easier.

The flapper boxes were not worth saving so an order at design911 was placed, all nuts but the last one came off without the hacksaw...

- L & R heater flapper boxes, decided against original and went for Dansk SS's for durability, anyone tried these?
- New cable, nipples, gaskets and clamps for flappers (previously purchased the silicone hoses).
- A couple of those nice red Purolator oil filters 8)
- 4x gaskets for drive shafts
- 1x ball-screw (correct word???) for where the rear anti roll bar attaches to the swingarm, there was excessive play once the ARB was offered up with new bushes, hopefully its possible to remove the bolt without resorting to heat up the freshly powder coated swingarm...

Time for an update

A few weeks ago I saw that James hot66 had sorted the CLM '16 arrangements and I quickly booked tickets, the thing is that the car is still in bits since I started the "quick" winter refresh back in 2014...

So what to do? Pull even more things off of course, out came the glass, carpets, dash, doors and other minor bits 'n bobs. The engine lid gaps and the right door will need some fettling by someone who actually knows what they're doing as opposed to me  before its time for paint.

But its not all parts coming off, a few have actualy been refitted :)

Stainless heater flapper boxes and new hoses, gaskets and hardware has been fitted, only missing the control cable which I'd forgot to order

Front brakes, I had these refurbished by classsicbrakes.co.uk last year, they're Alfa alu callipers with the same 48 mm piston diameter and 3 inch mounting spacing as the standard calliper. They're of course a great deal lighter than the iron pieces they replaced but more importantly they accept pads with bigger pad area.

Got stuck in last weekend, dismantled the bumpers, fitted newly refurbished rear calipers, sandblasted the front wings and rear bumpers but ran out of blasting media so couldn't complete the job.

Spent some 3 hours with this little fella in the blasting cabinet, surprisingly good condition. The other side had a couple of minor holes which I need to attend to before sending it off to the painter.
Image

Then moved onto the front wings to blast all the edges, didn't want to risk stretching the bigger flat and curved surfaces so will leave it to the painter to sand it back to bare steel before paint.
Image

One of the wings looked a little suspicious so I cut that open but couldn't close it as I ran out of sand..

Parts ready to go to the blaster as I ran out of sand, time and enthusiasm...

I searched advice here on DDK and decided that only proper solution to the crusty right door is to fit an original door skin, I collected it last Friday and have booked the car in with a body guy for sorting this and aligning all the panels before the car goes for paint prep.
