Thanks Andy, I guess I'd just prefer to start with an empty shell. It'll probably come a part once more in the far future. Just need a proper garage and some more time, like everyone else then eh?.

Re: Winter refresh
Today I took the advantage of using the "bohrwerk" at work for modifying the deep sixes for tubeless, it turned out pretty well.
Not wishing to start a discussion here about the pros and cons running tubeless on rims without safety hump, it's just the way I want to run.

Re: Winter refresh
Hi Magnus,
I've just moved toZurich (actually i'm in Einsiedeln) i've just had some work done on my. Car but its not running well. I have a 70 T that i've just put a 3.0 SC engine running PMO carbs on it. If i can get it registered in Switzerland in its current state then i need to find someone who can tune it. Any tips?
Sorry to hijack your thread. Your winter project looks great. Where are you getting the zinc plating and poweder coating done? I'd like to do the same to some of my parts.
Thanks
Paul

Good to hear about another ddker in the area, I'm in Männedorf but about to move shortly, however the car will stay in Swissy for some alpine weekend drives.
I did a lot of search regardsing having some blasting/powder/zink done in CH but unfortunately most companies wern't interested in touching my old car parts. I therefore decided to drive it back home to Sweden a couple of weeks ago were I got it all done within a week (still assembly to do...).
I've done the carb tuning myself so wouldn't have a clue where to have it done, sorry. I can check (aft 5.Jan) with some guys at work for recomendations of old school Weber tuners, if the car's still in UK I'd recoment to have as much as possible done there as it would be easier to find a recomended tuner and most likely way cheaper.
Car sounds like good fun and I hope to see it one day and that you can get it registered, let me know how it works out.
Cheers,
Magnus

Re: Winter refresh
Tiny Christmas update, not much progress on the car but parts keep arriving to my mate's house and now I've nearly received everything needed to get it back on it's own wheels again
The rear rear torsion bars were a bit pitted so I bought a pair of 26 mm turbo bars from a fellow DDKer, pleased to say that they arrived exactly as described, cheers Kieron! From what I understand these will work well with the Bilstein sports that I'm going to run, just not sure about the combination together with std 15 mm F/R ARBs and std torsion bars up front, guess I'll have to wait and see but if its a clear no-go then please feel free to let me know.
Have also received some more new parts,
- rear engine mounts in a harder grade rubber
- hoses that connect the SSIs to the heater flaps/valves
- oil line that connects the oil tank with the crankcase as it feel to bits when being removed
- correct Elephant Racing camber plate bushes
Waiting for some parts ordered at the local OPC a couple of weeks ago...
- hand brake cables
- gaiters for clutch, throttle and gear linkage (from tunnel)
- bushes for the front ARB drop links
- foam gaskets for front a-arms
- rear screen seal
- ball joint for accelerator linkage
- clip for the hand gas

Re: Winter refresh
Nearly forgot to mention the engine plans in the previous post...
Initially the idea was to have the engine work done at a later stage by either MBE or Redtech as it runs fine, has got good power and is 100% leak free but has a slight low frequency sound from the engine at idle (bottom -end bearing??). Then I stumbled upon old school guy Perry Andersson in deepest of Sweden. I've only heard good about him and he was mechanic for the late Bjorn Waldegard for many years and has run his own Porsche (only) engine shop since 1962, now ran together with his son.
After some (long) phone conversations with him I felt that enough trust was built so I shipped the engine and box to him for a checkup/rebuild as necessary. Additionally there might be a slight upgrade towards E-spec ish whilst it's apart. I suppose the observed wear (and cost...) will decide if also adding a 2.4/2.7 crank with some fancy P/C's

Re: Winter refresh
Time for an update, got a couple of days off work last week so decided to get some work done, pretty crappy phone photos as usual.
On Wednesday I had a bunch of parts scattering the garage floor...

...but its now its back on wheels

Decided to have a look under the rear screen seal as I've seen some worrying water trapped there, luckily there wasn't even any surface rust to be found and it will give enough space to weld up the speaker holes which have been cut through the parcel shelf

Re: Winter refresh
But of course not everything went well...
- I was too slow to mount one of the rear sword bushings and the super glue cured before it was properly seated, although the instruction clearly mentioned this. So now the left side is just temporarily installed until the new bushing that Chuck at Elephant Racing kindly shipped express within ours from receiving my mail, great service!
- I realized that I might have assembled the front Bilstein struts the wrong way. I put the rubber/plastic ring below the dust cap but just realized that it might need to be above the dust cap, anyone knowing please feel free to let me know?
- Not sure if I mounted the front torsion bars the correct way around, now the L/R marking is facing towards the rear of the car, correct or not? This isn't a problem really as they're just temporarily installed for rolling the car around and I'll change them as soon as I find a good pair for a fair price.

Re: Winter refresh
Time for an update here, title is Winter refresh but truth is that I haven't touched the car since January as life got in the way... Anyway, really looking forward to get stuck in again and going to spend next week in the garage.
Plan is to crack on with the following
1. Fab and weld in covers in the parcel shelf (old speaker holes)
2. Remove everything removable from engine bay
3. Take down engine bay to bare steel and coat it with etch prime then epoxy and finally a coat of Tangerine
4. Fit freshly overhauled engine and gearbox
Point 4 might be a bit optimistic but have to put some pressure to get stuff done right

Re: Winter refresh
That would be great but only if I can find a good panel beater to sort the engine lid shut lines. Don't want to risk being without the car another summer.911hillclimber wrote:So!

Re: Winter refresh
Its been a hectic but productive couple of days.
Day 1
Flew in to Stockholm last Friday, got a rental car and picked up the rebuilt engine and gearbox, drove 450 km to the workshop, drank too many beers and called it a day

Day 2 and 3
Loooong hrs cleaning up the engine bay and closing up speaker holes in the parcel shelf, went through 3x wire brushes for the angle grinder and 52x 3M roundels
as somebody previously had coated the complete engine bay in thick layer of rubbery underseal.

Day 4, brought very good progress
Sprayed CA etch primer on the bare steel.

Smoothed out one of the chassis legs with some filler.
Sprayed a layer of epoxy primer.
Wurt Body Schutz on the backrests and parcel shelf

Re: Winter refresh
Day 5
Started of as a bit of a let down and the plan was to lay the orange first thing in the morning, this didn't really work out... I had decided that I wanted to use a old school single stage solvent based DG (Direct Gloss) paint so I asked my mate to help me mixing the paint.
Problem no 1, It turned out the PPG database didn't contain a recipe for 018 Tangerine in DG and it would take PPG 5 days to get, 5 days which I didn't have
. So what to do? I decided to go with a BC coat which requires clear, I was a bit worried that it would look too good, too deep if you understand what I mean? My mate told me not to worry and suggested we pour some of the base coat into the clear to make it a "coloured clear".
Problem no 2
Realised that there was not enough in one of the mixers to make the 0.5L of paint I had planned to use so had to jump in the car and drive the 300 km to the Swedish PPG distributor, they had just the 1 tin of this mix in stock!
Much later the same evening I finally had it in orange
, only had time to bake it for 2 hrs before towing it back to the workshop.
