Re: Back in beige
What an out come!
Had a mini-battle with painting cellulose yesterday when the temp dropped like a stone in my tent spray booth, what-ever can happen did.
Look forward to the shell in the cleaned-up garage and with you fitting the parts.

Really pleased you made the decision to 'go pro' at this stage. You'd forever been kicking yourself otherwise. Can't wait to see the end result!

Re: Back in beige
To start with, nobody was rooting harder for Jamie to see this project through to completion than me. I greatly admire his aptitude and suggested Rich give him a few pointers during the process.jamie wrote:The paint gives the shine, the prep gives the reflection that flows along the length of the vehicle as smooth and straight as smoke trails in a windtunnel (similarly, the prep bit requires little skill and loads of time, and the application of paint is all about the skill, and not much about time).................The DDKer said his paint guy was very happy with the prep I had done, and that there was no longer any need to maintain an oath of silence. This was, quite simply, the ultimate compliment.....
Naturally when we started discussing laying on the final paint I was a little apprehensive; not only do you have the potential of different materials reacting against each other, photos always add a rose tint and the last thing I wanted is our name associated with something that looks like a dogs dinner!
I needn't have worried......and here Jamie sells himself incredibly short.....the car has been prepped beautifully with super flat slab-sides, smooth contours and perfect gaps. The paint was also pretty damn good too
Contrary to what Jamie said, not only does it take a huge amount of time, it also takes a fair amount of skill to prep a shell this well and he obviously has a great eye for detail......Rich has commented umpteen times how good the prep was and from someone so experienced (and talented) it is indeed the ultimate compliment.....as Rich said after paint 'it looks like I did from start to finish'
With the bulk of the work completed our role hasn't taken that long and we're just in the processing of final flatting before fitting up.......I'll try and take a few decent photos to send to Jamie when we're done.
Tell no-one?.......we're actually damn proud to be associated with this excellent restoration
Cheers Jamie....

Darren

I don't really know what to say. It's been such a whirlwind of highs and lows, I hope I don't cry when I see it in the metal.Darren65 wrote:as Rich said after paint 'it looks like I did from start to finish'

Re: Back in beige
The previous colour was like sobbing into a wooden tub of butterscotch Angel Delight whilst watching Michael Fish drive a Rattan Beige Montego through a stack of Caramac bars.
This one is like actually being in the Bahamas, under a baking-hot sun, whilst swimming in pre-warmed yellow speedos, in a yellow pool filled with ochre and Bahamian custard. It's that Bahama Yellow.
