74 Carrera Euro Spec vs 74 Carrera US Spec price difference?
OK hands up I now own a US spec 74 Carrera and I've posted this over on the IB forum but I hope some of you guys could help explain why there is a £100k difference in value between the Euro and US Spec Carreras? I've done as much googling as my brain can take and it seems to boil down to the engine (transmissions are identical in both car types). So the Euro spec 911/83 engine i.e. the 2.7 RS engine on MFI at 210bhp vs. the 911/93 2.7 CIS engine at 175bhp seems to be it? Having previoulsy owned a 911/83 engined 911 I know how good these engines are but........ Is the 74 Euro spec car over valued or the US car undervalued - there simply can't be £100k difference in valuation for what is 35bhp????
For valuation I'm assuming the Euro spec cars at c. £150k and the US cars at c. £50k.

I don't think you can go on bhp as a guide. I think you have to go on provenance, perception, hype, units built, worldwide distribution, marketing conditions at the time, smog control, and historical evidence of durability (read the late Bruce Anderson's opinion of the 2.7 US spec engine), original selling price, human desire, etc
Look at the differences between a 2.4S and a 2.7RS. Same story.

I must re read Mr. Andersons book re the 911/93 engine however I believe the engine in mine has had some de-restrictive work carried out in the past and I'm trying to contact previous owners for evidence, that said I would be sorely tempted to build a 911/83 spec engine and pop it in and keep the 911/93 on the sidelines......

Re: 74 Carrera Euro Spec vs 74 Carrera US Spec price differe
The US Carrera is really a Euro 911S with arches, so the values are almost the same. It's all to do with what people want, and that's the 2.7 RS halo, so I would value a Euro 2.7 at 4 times the US version

Re: 74 Carrera Euro Spec vs 74 Carrera US Spec price differe
I think there are several price differentials like this which are hard to rationalise. I would have loved a pre 73 911S but struggled to justify the price difference over a 911E which seems like a relative bargain for about 25bhp difference.
Market disagrees though and the 911S is the one that everyone wants!

Re: 74 Carrera Euro Spec vs 74 Carrera US Spec price differe
IMO the US 74 Carrera is much more than a Euro 911S hence my point. I'll dig a little deeper into the spec for Euro S, Carrera US and Carrera Euro and I think I might make my point, after all the US Carrera does have the RS ducktail "halo" something the Euro S never had not to mention the rest............Nick Moss wrote:The US Carrera is really a Euro 911S with arches, so the values are almost the same. Re: 74 Carrera Euro Spec vs 74 Carrera US Spec price differe
IMO they are undervalued .
Let's see: if you want factory carrera with arches and the ducktail you have 3 options:
73 rs
74 row
74 us
That's it,no more options.
Then to add-74 us carrera coupe 528 ever build that's twice less then ROW cars . Targas even fewer .if you lucky to get one of the first ones they even came out with the real 73 carrera arches which are more smother then the later ones. They have all the body strengthening pieces welded on. Gearbox has the same ratios.
I don't see where they have more differences bar the engine. Robin is right.

The same market will correct that mistake in a few years.

In that case the car is 75% undervalued, buy it!

Re: 74 Carrera Euro Spec vs 74 Carrera US Spec price differe
I do tend to agree with those that say the market dictates the value - its the only way, however i do think that these 74 US Spec cars represent very good value compared with Euro spec ones but that said so do lots of other 911 models - you pays your money and makes your choice.
I do have one reference from the US that says the value of the US Spec cars is currently £45-£70k stg, one selling recently at £59k. We'll see where the prices are in a year if only for interest sake.
