Re: Oh yes another 1973 rhd 2.4E
Yep, I joined the Club above this last Xmas.
Every Day is a Saturday.
It really is a good club to belong to. When you get to your early 60's you will be thinking the same.
If your hydraulic tensioners 'drop' due to loss of oil pressure, some other things are about to die in the engine too!
I've had a hydraulic tensioner fail on my 2.4 E/S engine and apart from a real racket, all was well after replacing the ball and cage.
The might of the Porsche development dept did this change and others for good reason on road cars, why consider we know better than them?

Popped down to Banbury today looking for a new industrial unit and turns out it is next door but one to Redtek!! Popped in to see Nick and are sending down my engine cases Monday to get the machine work done above. He is also making a new green engine shroud....hot66 wrote:This is the list of the machine work nick Fulljames did to my cases...

Re: Oh yes another 1973 rhd 2.4E
DA DA!!!

Crikey, turns out all that worry over nothing...... After a brief overnight visit to catch up with the DDK lads in Barnard Castle and short drive in the morning, I shot off home before lunch to finally tackle the wiring removal.
John Milburn sealed the loom fate after giving a few pointers on removing the lower dashboard section via 4 small bolts (which I couldnt see on mine as they were obscured by after market speakers) and a tip to heat up the block connector grommets with a hair dryer to soften the plastic.
I firstly disconnected all of the instrument wires whilst taking lots of photos back to the fuse box (keeping all wires connected on fuse box) and then could clearly see which wires belong to the rear. It turned out to only be 5 or 6 wires so I jotted down their location and removed these carefully. Next I pulled through the speedo cable from the rear and then the wiring. Upon removal I instantly reconnected the wires back to the fuse box to avoid any future confusion. All done in a couple of hours....al that worry...
After reading Darrens Mongrel thread I contacted Gary Cook who was extremely helpful and I will be sending down the loom for cleaning and restoring when I collect the fan from Neil Bainbridge which has been chromated.
Car is booked in for media blasting this week and inspection by Barry in a couple of weeks so finally starting another phase of progress

Never thought Id see the day when Adam demonstrated patience , was expecting to see the loom snipped in 1/2 & rived out at either end
Its all looking good. You'll be more of an expert on the details of an early 911 then you realise

I managed to find an angle that hid the 996 from the 'classic' day out Sunday
apologies for cramping your style lads!

Did 30 miles on bike tonight after work and then down to work with heat gun removing the sound deadening in passenger footwell......had enough already!!! Just started to rain so had to stop......another ride tomorrow hopefully if dry and same again, drivers side!

You're doing great Adam, well done.
If you can, try heating the floor from the opposite side then the sound deadening should peel off much easier.....best if you have a helper so you can work either side.
Cheers,
