Ah! Ok, well. I'll keep the stock 53-54 beetle tank as it is. Just for fun for those who recognizes it... I will ad a fuelgauge sender unit to it on the rear wall though, a little hidden from the front to keep it clean. The sender unit also includes a fuel line return from the fuel injection.

Today I worked on a custom bicycle that I started awhile back. Good to work on other things in-between. Lets the brain work on issues that need to be solved...
Here's the bicycle. Welded a few more details on it. Construction in progress with this one too...



While I was working on the bicycle some plans evolved in my twisted mind so after I finished working on the bicycle I decided to cut out a paper template and test some idea I had going on..
Next is now to cut the same template out of sheetmetal and start shaping it to fit.

So, now the holidays are over and I can go back to ordinary day schedule..

Today I cut a piece of sheetmetall, just shaped it roughly and started to testfit it. Seems to work... :D
Some minor adjustments and it will be perfect!

Not so much have happened but I managed to finish the lefthandside wheelwell last wednesday too.
Next would be to weld them and close the firewall to the wheelwells.

Wondering if this will be overkill??? :D Due to using the Centermount fanshroud I will have to build an external oilcooling system and was thinking maybe I'd use one of the 911 oil tanks I have laying around... I think it might fit under the body without sticking out too much below... :D




I would fit this one under the front headlight in the front. Maybe with and other one on the other side too...?

What engine you decided to go for Hebster, a 6 or a 4

Type-1 1915cc with center mount fanshroud so the original engine mount oilcooler will be gone.

If you want to use the oil tank you will need a dry-sump oil pump (cb performance for example).

Yes, I will use the CB oil pump.

Today I finally got myself to start the patchwork and rebuild what I cut too much last spring.. Had some different ideas then and they evolved into this during the time I worked with the front.
I think it turned out better than originally planned...
Luckily I never throw away any parts I cut out until I'm 100% sure I dont need them...



Also fitted the lefthandside hole.



After I patched the righthandside (left in the picture) I shaped both sides the same way.



After this I shaped the new panel to cover the heater tube. Still have to make the other side too. And somebody should take the time to paintstrip the original panel completely too. Looks horrifying as it is.... :D




With this work the heater connection pipe between body and engine have enough room after the 5cm engine and transmission lift.

Love the detail in shaping the panels, rather than slapping a plate over everything.

Thanks. I've always liked when something not original looks like it would be factory...

The Finnish regulations are pretty strict... The title of the original car will be the title for the finished car too. They use a table where different main parts of a car is given specific % from original car. To be able to make this I must be able to calculate up to over 50% of parts from the original car to avoid new car tax and requirements... We also have to make an application for conversion of body construction from original to the Finnish Vehicle Management(?). Luckily the previous owner/builder have done the that application allready and got it approved. So I'm still having hopes that the approval still is valid after changing owner...

So the day I will do the IVA will be very nerv wrecking anyhow...

A couple of weeks ago I ordered some new wheelcenters for the project...
They arrived this week. A set of 4 pre-A 16 inch wheelcenters...



So, just because of this I had to take the rearwheels off the Heb I'm working on. Made a pair of 6½x16 from a pair of splitbeetle wheels many years ago. They were made for later swingaxle with long driveaxles so the offset is appr. 43mm.
Works great in the rear and should fit inside the body without rubbing. :D



It was a little bit more tight in the front. The wheel edge is about 5mm from the spring and the tire almost rubs. This is a 205/45 so if I change to 195/50 or even 185/55 it should rub.




The smooth beetle 16 inch wheels would also look great on this...

Thanks! The tractor is a 1953 Valmet 15. My dad is restoring the old tractor that my grandfather bought new back in 1953.

The past week I finally started to weld some of the sheet metal I have been preparing.

First tackwelded the final small pieces:




Then took the whole floorpiece out of the car and fully welded it:



And fitted the piece back into the car to check fitment to the still nonwelded inner wheelwells.




I'm very pleased with the result so far. Luckily I put this work aside a year ago and started working on the front first. As this is way better than I first had planned to make the rearsection... :D
