....the wife was less complimentary......as I excitedly dragged her into the workshop waxing lyrical about how the shell looked dipped and pointing out all the little details, she quizzically looked at me and said 'what is all the fuss about, it's only a bit of black paint you know!'.....

....I s'pose she's actually right!

Off the spit for good, back on it's wheels (of sorts), apply a few sound pads, then masked and time to be TANGOED!....

Sorry to say my wife said the same...and she likes cars!

The sharp contrast will be stunning to see.

I think we are all inspired by these builds and yours in particular are outside the normal boundaries imho and you have the resources to really make the investments pay back and that is very good to see.

The Xmas period should see a lot of progress I think!

Keep up the pictures, makes all the difference.

My own humble 'hot-rod' 911 is coming up for a body re-rebuild and I will soon have all the time in the world to do it (early retirement) and these car do me no good, far too tempting to move away from the stock look.

An update for Jason....

The plan with the interior of the Mongrel is a simple ST inspired look using the excellent needlefelt lightweight carpet supplied by Stretch..... viewtopic.php?f=5&t=48945&hilit=felt+carpet ....simply cut to shape, unbound and glued in....



....however....being a car that will cover many long road trips and many miles and with a lack of underseal and no engine bay sound deadening I decided it needed a little more than earplugs for those long journeys.

I initially thought I'd use Lizard Skin paint which looks a little like stonechip for the interior however I decided a much cleaner look would be to use floor sound pads for the entire rear bulkhead.....it's thin, moulds nicely, hopefully works and the felt will look like it's been glued directly to the shell producing the look I'm after....







....well that's the theory!.....time will tell how effective it is and if it doesn't work it's going to be pretty easy to remove.

Admiring Richard's handiwork I literally laughed out loud when he pointed out how he was keeping the diamond pattern in sequence! .....

Looks good! And thanks for the update. I should have brought my car down and you could have done 2 at once with you having all the cutouts to hand!

Be interesting to hear what the sound in the cabin is like when it is all finished...

That's how I'm feeling!

Had a day away from everything yesterday.....or so I thought!

During the day I received a couple of emails from Mike Bainbridge with a parts list for the gearbox, an email from Raj at Genius of the Lamp advising my two sets of Cibies are ready for collection, an email from a fellow enthusiast asking when I'd like to view a steering wheel (another insane 'can't resist' item that I really shouldn't be buying), a missed call from Ben Coles, a text from Nick Fulljames and Marek sent through an email with photos of a filler neck I need for my 100 litre tank!.....

.....all at a period when business hits the floor, profitability heads South and I lie awake at nights worrying about cashflow!

Obsession is a love/hate thing....I need to see an end to this, I need a finish line....I quite possibly need therapy!

Returned to work on Friday to find Rich had completed the sound deadening with the car masked up and guide coat applied for rubbing down before final paint....



....had to break in to check sound pad fitment; looks good and will hopefully be invisible under the felt...



...the water running off the roof had left a puddle in the corner of the a-post, no wonder they rot out here!...



....and then what starts out looking like this....



....ends up looking like this (panel wipe applied to accentuate the contour)....



Glassy smooth, arrow straight and super flat ready for final paint......add colour, a little orange peel and maybe the odd paint run afterwards but this is how a fresh factory pressed new shell would have looked prior to paint 42 years ago!
