Who is the 914/6 guru in the U.K.? I am trying to buy a 1 owner car in the U.S. and want some help identifying it.

What sort of help with identification do you need with the 914/6? I have a bit of data on them.

I am awaiting the vin number at the moment and a photo of the chassis plate, but in the meantime I wanted to know what besides the engine/box makes a six a six, ignition barrel in dash on left hand side is one but what else?

I found this is a good book to get if you haven't already..lots of details about the model differences.

Good luck with the purchase…you lucky lucky man! I have regrets since selling mine as it would now be worth nearly double what I sold it for….arghh. They are rapidly appreciating in value..

The chassis number is the key to all your doubts, it's the number stamped on the top of o/side inner front wing, all genuine sixes start with a 914 number.

There are lots of differences:
5 bolt suspension; front is 911 with vented rotors & calipers with 48mm pistons while rear is unique to the 914/6
most 914/6 have a 2 digit paint code, and no chassis # on the paint badge
Chassis # in the rear trunk is 13xxxx and placed in center for 1970 while 1971 is 131xxxx and to the right side or 1972 is 132xxxx (1970 they forgot the year digit).
Washer tank is different and uses a pump
Instruments are different

Did you ever get the VIN? If not, do you have a link?

Bad luck, maybe it wasn't that much of a bargain anyway?
Did it get sold in the states or has someone in UK bought it?
