Time for some maintenance
Now the weather is drawing in time for a few jobs that need doing before the Classic NEC show.
First up on the list, pushrod tubes. Loosing alot of oil from these and getting worse.
Seems the reason for them leaking is due to cheap oils seals hardening and going flat, see picture comparing old to new. Going to upgrade these to the Viton variety.
New Viton oil seals inner and outer fitted, rockers re-installed. Just need to re gap the tappets now and JD.
Next job, a broken exhaust bracket. Need to get the welder set up with some stainless wire for this.

Re: Time for some maintenance
Exhaust now welded, what a pain in the ass. Limited access above and welding upside down not good idea. Should of taken the manifold of really but as a temporary measure, it'll do. At least it'll stop it clattering. Engine comes out next year so l will tidy it up then.
Silencer back on and ready to Rock.
Next up is the Alternator stand. It appears to have a slight oil leak coming from the mating surfaces. Not a 5 minute job but whilst the tools are out let the games begin...

Re: Time for some maintenance
Update in the alternator stand oil leak.
After removing the Alternator from the the stand it became apparent why it was leaking oil. The stand itself had work loose, slightly. As there was no gasket just sealant between the joint it has caused the two surfaces to chaff with the vibration from the fan belt. It's more apparent on the underside of the Alternator stand. See pic.
Decided to get some 2mm Nitrile cork to use as a gasket between the stand and engine. Although last minute l decided to get some gasket paper instead. This will compress once tightened up and should stay that that way. The cork may of worked compressed further with the vibration and started leaking again??.
Next up was the throttle linkage bracket. This was tack welded at each end only. One end had a crack so decided to weld across the length of the bracket. Only problem, no tig welder. Time for a favour, then l remember l purchased some Alu weld a few years back at the NEC so though I'd give it ago. Here's the process of how it works.
And the finished job. Really impressed and a really strong joint.
Next up put it all back together and go for a run. Fingers crossed a leak free engine again.

Re: Time for some maintenance
Definitely better to use gasket paper or a thin copper gasket. The cork wouldn't work with the forces & vibration involved.

Re: Time for some maintenance
The deck lid is of the real deal (steel) had the Louves pressed in. Then painted it aircraft grey, it was the best match l could get.
