clever trick with the heat lamp Darren
am a bit miffed that my perfect fitting bonnet sits proud of the wings now its resting on new seals... am sure they will compress over time but if Tuthills had done the same as you I suspect it would fit better ...

Thanks Dan,squirdan wrote:am a bit miffed that my perfect fitting bonnet sits proud of the wings now its resting on new seals
Do you mean at the rear Dan by the bulkhead?….I've seen quite a few cars where new struts push up the rear of the bonnet, mine was initially the same……a bit niggly to adjust but it can be sorted.
Cheers,
Darren

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Just had another look and you obviously don't have bonnet struts with your glass bonnet…..Darren65 wrote:Do you mean at the rear Dan by the bulkhead?squirdan wrote:am a bit miffed that my perfect fitting bonnet sits proud of the wings now its resting on new seals
….take the seals out and squash 'em!

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Six weeks since the shell was painted in epoxy primer and how does it look now?…..Darren65 wrote: No slowing down now!![]()
…..exactly as it did six weeks ago!

Well to be fair not exactly as it was……
…..there's been many, many hours of preparation, the epoxy base coat ended up looking like this….

…..now with a second epoxy layer, this time smooth, super flat, gapped perfectly and blemish free…..

The hours of preparation now mean the rest of the paintwork is plain sailing and relatively straightforward…...great to get the bulk of paint prep out of the way
Not all perfect however…..the bonnet is a little wavy but then it's glass so to be expected…...we've drawn the line at over-prepping the bonnet; no point in doing our utmost to save weight and then start adding some back!…

The car will now be left to rest for a few weeks for everything to cure before moving on to high-build primer and then…….colour!
Cheers,
Darren

Oh for a minty clean Barry shell! It looks great Darren. What colour are you going for, you may have mentioned it before?

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Agree Gary with the Barry Shell!
Never had even shut lines etc, but my excuse is it is all home-grown.
As to Barry; has he disappeared or taking a big rest?
Admire your patience Darren for 'letting it rest' to get the best result, not sure I could do that!

Genuine Porsche bonnet seats will lift any GRP bonnet out of line, after market seals will do so even more. We always use a different style of seal, which is softer and lower, to maintain the bonnet fit
