do I need one?

Asking the wrong person there Dan, I'm still learning so what do I know!…....maybe a nice addition when you fit those high butterflies!

The pump brace was primarily used with the ST and then RSR engines…..



My engine is type 911/02 which were often the basis of ST racing engines……although there was good arguments to sell this and build a nice 2.7RS type hot rod motor I wanted to use what I had…...Nick suggested taking it to 2.5 litres, then came the short stroke Mahle 89mm barrels and pistons, then I started looking at induction and high butterflies and then!……where do you stop!!

All looks pretty sharp when put together though….



….you should see the racing oil filter housing kit that Ben produces…..another perfect reproduction cast in magnesium including the steel disk type oil filter …

…..do I know what they're for?…no, not really….do I want one?….silly question, they look the DB's, of course I want one….but do I actually need one? …….

….I know one thing……I'm crap at making sensible decisions!

Collected my E from Redtek today following a service and pre-summer check……good to see my engine making steady progress.

Fuel pump now fully rebuilt….I did consider adapting this into a lookey likey racing pump although don't think that's for me……the unit is what it is, a 009 pump modified for 2.5 litres ….the racing pump can remain a dream for another day!…



…heads now machined for twin spark and gas flowed…



…ports have been opened out but not polished, Nick likes to leave a rough surface to get the air tumbling and boost output…

…hard to see in the photo but rather than being machined straight through as per an out and out race engine, these have a slight 'bulge' machined into them….I'm told this will create a bottleneck effect forcing air as it gets sucked down from the high butterflies into the engine in a more efficient way and improving low down torque….



…with the case now machined and shuffle pinned, it'll soon be moving upstairs for assembly.

Body is also making steady progress following a quiet couple of weeks whilst catching up on other work.

Initial stopper work completed and more trial fitting of panels…gaps are typical Carter …



…generally very pleased with the Getty Design glass panels….bonnet a good fit although it sat very proud on the right rear edge by the scuttle….



…easily sorted with glass….45 minutes under a hot lamp whilst compressed with a heavy weight…



…and hey presto!…



…the inner door cut-outs look great now they're painted and the doors re-hung….



…when I was initially flashing these off it surprised me that no one asked 'what about the window frames?'….

…easy….just add a bit of length to the centre leg! ….

….I was thinking of polishing the lower window frame legs and having them as an internal feature although now think I'll just black the lower part to disguise them a little…



A little more tweaking of gaps and levels then another coat of epoxy primer next week after which the fun stuff begins….

…although I don't think I'll be catching up with sladey any time soon!

Looking great.

You could use the bolton of the window frame as your internal door handle to close it. Maybe covered in leather (assuming it wouldn't inter fear with your window glass) Might be a cool.

A couple of days of final tweaking and then onto paint……should be in colour by CLM

Darren. Might be a little bling but what about some led lights in the top of those door to illuminate the inside and act as a sort of puddle light when you open them? Might be a good substitute for normal interior lights. Also Alan's ST rep must have some led lights in the instrument a which make the illumination much clearer and fresher looking at night.

I have driven today with a pair of Peltor ear defenders on. Get a stilho intercom or similar that you can pipe music into. It'll be blooming noisy I think and a little wareing after a while when you just want to get home after a long day driving.

I'm pretty conscious of noise and 'liveability'……ideally I'd like to keep exhaust noise to 105dB although may also have a noisy exhaust for when the mood grabs me!

Interior wise I'll experiment with soundproofing although do want to keep things light….I may even opt for this… http://www.lizardskin.com/
