Re: 3.0 in a 70T
Looks like there are at least 3 of us doing this. My 70T already has a 915 gearbox. The 3.0SC engine is now on the stand. I removed the tinware last weekend and only intend to backdate the exhaust/heat exchangers, put on PMO carbs and give it a clean. Hopefully not too difficult for a DIY mechanic.

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
Re the cooler - I too don't believe 100% necessary - I did a 7 country, 4 day, 2500 mile blast to Monaco and back last year with a 3 litre and no front oil cooler fitted.
No overheating problems whatsoever.
Ideally fit one I suppose but the swap is not totally dependant on this.
Steve
PS you will love the 3.0 I'm sure !!

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
Turns out that the Engine coming out of the 2.2T mentioned by OP is Pulling 145BHP!
Which isnt bad considering it started with 120bhp odd..!

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
I do now have a near complete oil cooler system, so i will fit that with the engine. New tinware is also on its way to fit the early style exhaust.

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
With the external cooler added you do get the advantage of a good 3 to extra litres of oil to the engine, though more ££££ when doing an oil change. Getting the old oil out of the external cooler totally is impossible during such a change, so fresh oil is always contaminated!
The engine stat will look after the temp, but the stat in the cooler junction block also must be good.
(I'm assuming you are fitting a Porsche trombone type cooler system)
PS that 2.2T must have a few tricks in it!

not sure what tricks it had but knew the old 2.2 was a bit lively.

My 3.0 tear down is coming along. I hope to complete taking it apart over the weekend. Hopefully i will then know which replacement parts i need.

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
Got some parts back from being refurbished. I asked for them to be cleaned and for the fan and valve covers to be powder coated. However, they powder coated everything (a result of my poor Polish). The alternator has been completely rewound and had the bearings replaced. The also powder coated the engine bar parts black, rechromed my door handles and put a new lock in.
And i restored then fan shroud with leather stain.
Just waiting for some replacement parts to arrive before bolting it back together.

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
Check the clearance between the fan blade tips and the inner dia of the housing, the powder thickness might be too much?
Look forward to your engine build.
I presume it will be a DIY affair?

Yep. All DIY.... Although i do have a handy local mechanic in case of a disaster which will be required for a final tune up. I reassembled the fan, alternator and housing today. All is well, it spins fine without fouling on the housing.

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
A big box of parts arrived from Pelican this week (amazing that its cheaper to buy parts from the US, pay shipping and duty and its still cheaper than buying in Europe). Lightweight flywheel installed today, induction and PMO carbs ordered, just waiting for some brackets before i can fit the external oil cooler.
The box!
Removal of the flywheel gasket was a major pain
Finally done

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
Put the cam covers and oil lines on. I refitted the intermediate shaft cover as the guy i bought the engine off put a bolt on rather than a stud. I also fitted the oil return tunes. Even with the engine out that was a pig of a job. Not much more i can do now until the distributor arrives back from Elf Ignition.

Distributor arrived from Elf Ignition. Very pretty! So i fitted it, set the valves and fitted the valve covers. I plan to fit the external oil cooler this week if a couple of parts arrive.

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
Looking good.
You can remove that oil carpet now!
These engines pass oil everywhere as you rotate the assembly endlessly...as you now well know.

Re: 3.0 in a 70T
Quick question, will a 915 gearbox fit a MY70T car without any modifications?
Or, do you have to use a hammer to modify the shell some?
Thx
