Old Moto Guzzi - Finally managed to buy one ! (1967)

Post by Cortina »

Finally managed to buy one of these ... a 1967 V7 . Too soon to say much more , it sounds interesting from the description (2 owners from new , and a fully documented log of ownership) and looks nice and original in the photos ... but the proof of the pudding ......
One minor problem is that it's a few miles from home ... it's in North West America !!.... but thats a good excuse for another motorcycling holiday when the weather warms up.

I'm guessing it's much cheaper to ship such things home from the East coast ? .. so that may mean another excuse for a trans America ride (NOT Route 66 for me I suspect !). Anyone bringing a 911 home in the next 12 months , and wants to rent me some container space ... please let me know. :)

Will post some photies when they get taken ... am getting a friend from Seattle to go down and get it for me in the near future ... while the roads are still very rideable.
Royal Enfield .. still in India
GL 1800 Tour DCT, for pleasure / Fantic 240 Professional - play
Rally 911 (1966) build parked for a while
Rally 928 (work started again - inc serious weight loss programe !)
.... and now another VW Up GTI owner.

Sweet, just got to love old Guzzis!

Been riding mine for near 36 years now, 200,000 and counting, just about starting to loosen up!

Now what does that sound like.........

Photos please, I may even put up some of my steed!

Excellent! I used to be a serial Guzzi owner (rather than rider TBH0.

Stornello (98cc more or less), Ladola (175), Airone (about 245cc), Imola (350), 750S3 (wonderful), MK1 LeMans (even more wonderful), 1100i Sport: freaking horrible, freaking frightening. Had a reputation of shredding fifth gear, I could never see how as I only got to use fifth a couple of times. You really only got into it around 90-100. It had Magnetti Marello injection which worked quite well when pressing on, but used to cut when going around roundabouts. To big for me, so sold it and wished I'd kept the LM1.

Now down to a CB200 Cafe Race project ... oh how times change :( .

Regarding shipping from the West Coast of US, send Britt Grannis a PM - he goes under the handle if Roadcow on a lot of aircooled orientated forums (Eircooled.com, VZI, the Samba, etc.) He regularly ships containers from Oakland to Ireland, usually with a couple of VWs inside. He's straight up, very easy to deal with and should be able to sort out space for your Guzzi. I shipped my PreA with him into Belfast at the time and all proved to be very stress free. You can tell him Padraig referred you if you like ;)

Thanks for that info and contact. Have sent him note and he seems willing ...... which is good.
Friend has now picked the bike up , and it's safely tucked up in Seattle.
Have some better photos now , but as I am in middle of India armed only with a tablet , posting them will wait !

Bike was picked up by a friend and is now in his basement in Seattle.
Flight to Seattle booked for mid May ... two weeks to tinker with and service , fit panniers etc
Wife will join me then ... and we will take off on it for a month of gentle touring the West Coast

It's a tough life ... but someone must do it :)

very, very nice. I'm a newbie to the world of Guzzis, just about to push the button on a new(ish) V7 so have been reading up on them. That one is lovely.
