72 911T

Post by 101sinbad »

I've had this for a while. I swapped 2 cars with a friend and some cash. My original idea was to put in a bigger engine, wider arches to fit 8's at the back and strip out some of the weight and have a fun run around.

When it arrived and I had time to look at it I don't think I have it in me to mess around with it. Don't get me wrong, I'm generally happy to go my own way and build the car the way I want it. My Roadster is matching numbers but I still changed the colour, the interior, the engine......etc. But it's how I like it.

The problem I have with this car is that it seems to have all the hallmarks of an anoraks wet dream.

Apologies for the bad photos. I'll take some more when it's back from Chris (Butzi). The car hasn't ran for over 10 years but hopefully won't take too much to get her up and running;

I'll post more info and photos once I've been through the paperwork.

Looks/sounds like you got a good deal there Serhad - that must be one of the last ROW '72T's built...

the front brakes were binding and I'm assuming someone tried a little too hard to push the car using the mirror and it ended up in their hand.

my friend didn't think so. He overpaid for it because he really wanted one of my cars. We'd agreed on a swap for a mk1 mini and a mk1 escort, but I ended up handing over an additional £6k to make him feel better about it.

It was sold in Jersey in 1972 and then came back to the UK in 1981/82. The mot's from 81 through to 98 show a gradual increase in mileage from 27k to 46k. It's at 47k today.

The plan is to get it working, use it for the summer and see if I love it and want to keep it.

I have seen the car at Chris's garage, it is lovely. I agree don't mess with it.

My guess would be Jersey cars would be prone to more rust due to the sea air but this looks quite sound judging by the photos posted so far.
I hope you get it up & running soon, Serhad; would love to see it out & about.
Oh, and what's not to love?!! :)

yes. that's the one. He did get a Mk1 Mexico, Mk1 mini cooper S and some cash in return. In the end we were both happy.

Hi Sinbad

I had the same problem when I got my 1972TE (see Monsier Aubergine Restoration thread)
The intension was to build a bit of a hot rod but once I got the car realised its just to good to mess around with.
The idea now is just minor restoration as that is all that's required, leather the interior, detail the engine, drop the suspension a little, RS door cards and probably some stripes just to make it a little different.
The idea being that the car does become mine and wont look exactly the same as another 72TE but also all mods can be put back to standard if required.

I agree with everyone else leave well alone and just tweak to make you happy
I still want to go down the hot rod road but think I will wait a couple of years and purchase a backdate instead
