Revo must be doing his nut.

The thread is headed "engine bay colour" and he remarks that the aubergine respray in that area seems to have black underneath which (by implication) was not what he expected on his MY72.

The only answer he needed was that the aubergine overspray is likely to have been done over the original finish of black over body colour without any other preparation.

My answer was that it was normal to find black over body colour in the engine bay on a 72MY. I concede that there is a difference of opinion on how the black was applied.

Hope that clears up what I was trying to say.

Regards
Mike

I think the nuts in the engine bay were just yellow zinc plated, Mike ….. or was it cadmium plated? …….then over-painted black ……. by hand …. I think.

What do you think Darren?

Sorry

Well chaps i thought that may generate a lively debate.
I think the general consensus would seem to be hand painted black in engine bay and body colour under bonnet.
Thanks to all for the input especially MT for his concern for my nuts.
I will have to come up with a similar question next sunday to keep you all on your toes.

Many thanks once again

The very best thing on this incredibly interesting  thread was the wonderful YouTube clip of the old boy Earl selling his green 911E on Ebay.
It seems to have sold for the phenomenal price of over £90,000 and he and his wife, seen with him at the end, deserve every penny. Fantastic.

Can't add anything to the engine bay debate but completely agree, nice people and nice stories.

My 70T (Sept '69 build) car has both black under bonnet and engine bay if it's any help.
