RHD Cibie Biodes Complete with Hella Clear Glass Housings

Dunno what difference the non-fluted glass makes but I had a set of Biodes in my rallying days back in the 70's.
Advantage is 2 bulbs for dipped beam plus 2 bulbs for main beam with dedicated and concentrated reflectors. I ran mine with (illegal!) 100w halogens, so main beam = 400w! Like driving on a sunny day in the middle of the night!

In addition to looking great, in what way are these better than a H1 or a H4?

Basically these were designed in France in the late sixties and quickly became the choice of motorsport drivers as they incorporate
the built in spotlight on main beam. There are 190mm diameter versions around on the continent and some have yellow covers
over the spotlight bulb but it's the 170mm versions that fit the standard 7" headlight housing that are sought after for Porsches.

They came to prominence with the Ford works rally teams and Porsche ran them at Le Mans, if you think about it having the built
in spotlamps negates the need for auxiliary spots which would cause drag so leaving a standard frontal area for the airflow.

I'm not sure what bulbs they used back in the day, but with double H4's in now they are pretty phenomenal so it not just for show!

I think if you're seriously using it like that Phil, it's worth maybe getting some clear 3M film to go over those lenses.
It would certainly help against a flying stone, they do look so good

Seeing these for sale reminded me of a pair of lights I picked up a few years ago at a local auto jumble . From memory I think I paid a fair few quid for them but I'm not sure if they have any real value . I seem to remember getting them from a guy who was selling a lot of seventies Ford rally parts but they where advertised as being a Porsche fitment as well .













So folks ....Any ideas what they're from ?

No luck with the elusive Nico Pohlan I'm afraid, off to see the boys in Birmingham who did such a nice job on Mikes.
