The '74 Carrera saw the arrival of the new lightweight aluminium trailing arms.
The original arms were still on the car but they needed some work.

The ball joint is for the anti-roll bar attachment (unique to '74-77 years I believe).

Early911 worked their magic on them, stripped them and cleaned them.
Boy, they came up looking good. Just like new.

In the late 80's I did body hardware for Rover/Ford USA/GM USA/Chrysler and Body in White was defined as the Porsche description...
Some were better at it than others....

Do those bushes slip on the arm 'journals' or do you press the outers on in the right factory defined orientation because they do not slip after installation?

The front and rear housings around the bushes are set to particular angles after they are pressed on. They were fairly easy to twist at the time, 24 hours later the soapy water that I used to lube them will have dried off and the angles will be set. It's not something I have to worry about with Superpro bushes as they rotate on the A arms fairly freely.

So, before the discussion gets any more animated we'll all agree that both explanations are valid.

Once cleaned up the casting marks were more visible.
The two sides were manufactured the same month but different dates (I'm assuming the first two numbers represent day & month).

True, their standards are high enough to deflect any criticism but it's a brave restorer who contributes so willingly to the trial by internet.
