While we're on the subject of pedals, let's talk pedal boards.
In an early 911 you don’t put your ‘pedal to the metal’, you put your ‘foot to the wooden floor boards’.

Here’s a helpful guide to identify floor boards that are in poor condition.
They are fashioned from timber and your plywood shouldn’t be curvy.
Wavy is certainly no good either.
Plus all the layers should be glued together.

My passenger side foot board was in poor shape.
Obviously damp had got in the foot well and rotted the bottom edge.

The drivers side board was in excellent shape.
It doesn't really need changing (although, oddly, I do have a spare RHD board if needed).

But I certainly did need a replacement for the passenger side.
I turned to DDK’er Ron Vincent who makes some excellent reproductions.
I’ve bought boards from Ron before and they really are superb, he’s good with wood.
£55 I paid and I was delighted to do so.

Re: 1974 Carrera Coupe - RHD, UK car
I had illustrated the restoration of my dials in an earlier thread but I felt it would be sensible to add the pictures into this post to evidence another facet of the thoroughness of the overall restoration.
The dial set was complete but looking a little worse for wear.

I had the gauges rebuilt by Speedy Cables and let’s just say they took a while to do the job.
This was what they had to work with.

The dials are original to the car and the pictures below illustrate the date stamps matching the build date.

Re: 1974 Carrera Coupe - RHD, UK car
Sadly some of that history was lost as the backs of the cases were re-painted.
I’ll have to forgive Speedy Cables because I guess some gauges have rusty cases so their refurbishment process routinely refreshes those parts too.
However, in doing that they covered the inked date stamps which was a shame.

Re: 1974 Carrera Coupe - RHD, UK car
A few of the gauges (like the one pictured on the right below) had punched date stamps so obviously that dating evidence survived.
So, it’s a lesson I’ve learned and I’ll pass that wisdom on to you.
I’d advise you to consider mentioning it with your chosen gauge refinisher if you undertake a similar project.

The end result looks great, I’m pleased with the work and once they are installed they'll look even more impressive.
