This is another Porsche card showing some of the various tartan seat inserts.
The green one I’m after is the bottom of this list.

You have just rescued yourself from the edge - I thought we might have lost you to the extremes of convention.
Long rule turquoise and tartan.

That No41 Blue Madras is the trim my '73 E left the factory with, would love to get hold of some.

And another swatch card that better shows the different colours Porsche offered of the same tartan design.
The one I'm after is No.42 (second up from bottom, right column).

Green tartan will be very nice. Much cooler than boring standard black inserts (sorry to those with boring standard black inserts) :)

Whilst I like the tartan seats, do you not think lime green with the green tartan will be too overpowering? I know the grey/black is maybe a bit boring but think you need a contrasting colour. Could you find a grey tartan with a thin stripe in green ( I know you can get it with a red pin stripe)

It was possible to specify the tartan cloth throughout the whole cabin.
Below are a few images to illustrate (it's a later 911).
There are some rather poor photos of a set that was up for sale on eBay but you can see just how much patterned cloth you could get.
I think that’s a bit over the top for me.
I don’t want door cards, rear quarters and rear shelf done that way. Call me a wuss.

Of course there is a Porsche precedent for non original tartans.
This was another man called Ferry.

I hunted high and low to find that Porsche tartan and believe me it was tricky finding some.
Really tricky.
I very nearly gave up.

Well, in fact I didn’t give up but what I did consider was commissioning a bespoke making.
But I felt that a minimum order of 100 yards of cloth would bankrupt me.
It was coming out at a five figure sum.
And yes, I did think about it.
I thought how long would it take for me to get my money back selling a couple of yards at a time...

Other options presented themselves, I found a Mercedes tartan but it wasn’t right.
I found non-automotive tartans but they didn’t match closely enough and those fabrics wouldn’t be hard wearing enough for use on seats.
I found a VW van tartan but the pattern was slightly different.
I really wanted the Porsche design..... :(

But there had to be another way.
So I tried all over the world.

None in Britain.
None in Germany.
None.
Dead ends all around. :?
