PRS & Max at Revival are the other 2 that i would trust.

I think that Max is super honest but the last time I spoke to him he was building a clean room to do bottom end builds which implied he didn't do them (at the time). I wonder if he is done yet.

PS I spoke to somebody that restored a 912 recently and had the engine rebuilt but had to send it to Max to sort out!!

Yes, Max used to get Barry (Curtis) to buid engines for him but now rebuilds them 'in house' for customers.

Agreed but that is amazing to he is how Andy's name is almost considered to be the only 912 engine builder of value in the UK! Don't get me know I've only heard positive things/had positive interactions with Mr Prill but there are surely other outstanding engine builders that don't charge quite the same premium?

Hello Neil, yep I'm sure you're right, as the fellas above have pointed out, there are others. Just talking from my own experience.

As it happens, when it comes to putting a price on a 912, if it is claiming an engine rebuild as added value - the provenance of that build would be crucial to me. Having experienced the reality of buying a car with a "top-end rebuild" that proved, when dismantled to be pretty shoddy (and always get an independent compression test done!).

I can't disagree and as I said I think I've heard yourself, and others, say great things about Mr Prill's work. Just politely suggesting that others in the uk can build nice 912 engines too

Absolutely. But in the context of this thread and the discussion about prices - I think there are certain builders (very few in the case of 912s) whose motors will actually add £££ to the value of a car on sale. All is in the eye of the beholder though, as always.
