I had fondly believed that my fan shroud would be OK.
It was the original and it had led a hard life of nearly 40 years.
It was scratched and scuffed but I felt that might polish out.
It probably needed re-dressing. :)

However, more worryingly it was faded and as the colour is embedded in the gel coat it’s not really restorable, short of painting it.
Nick showed me a modern repro and I had to concede it would be a cosmetic improvement to use a new one.
When you see them side by side you can understand.

So I plumped for a new shroud and I've got to say it looks great. 8)

Now, whilst the engineering integrity of the engine is paramount, the look is important too.
So, I didn't want it looking old and scruffy.

In fact I spent a large amount just on the cosmetics. I won't say how much as it will upset Keith and the recollection may upset me too.
However, when you discover just how many components are involved you understand why.
All the steel bright ware was re-plated, all new nuts & bolts were supplied, even the decals.
Plus all the hoses and rubber pipes and clips. As we saw earlier for the 'tin-ware' the black steel parts were powder coated.
It adds up. And it’s time consuming.
And yet all that really makes the finishing touches, it will now sparkle like new. As good as new.

You are right Paul, once you make the descision to go for 'factory fresh' you have to do it to everything. And it's not cheap as a consequence!

The fan hub was in a bad way. There was evidence of wear and some abuse.
Nick had to weld the plate and machine it back, but it ended up perfect.

The injectors are an important component and not worth taking chances with.
And they’d likely been in there a long time and seen a lot of service.

So, I decided to discard the old ones and order anew.
Six brand new injectors duly arrived and were screwed in.

I did have one bit of good fortune with the rebuild and that was the SSI's.
I discovered some rather filthy heat exchangers with the car but they easily cleaned up to reveal a pair in very fine order. They are beautifully made, quality stuff. 8)
