Re: 1974 Carrera Coupe - RHD, UK car
The Carrera 2.7 followed the same production/model year as every other Porsche and was a full production model for 74 and 75. It was also produced in limited numbers in 76 as a homologation car, only available in Germany and Switzerland. They were never fitted with 16s, which were introduced on the Carrera 3.0 and Turbo 3.0.

No thanks, they don't look anything like my Campagnolo's.......Mitch wrote:No, I think he's interested in those Azevs... they're quite like the Ferrari 5 spoke, if you squint a bit more.

Oh yes, the 1975 2.7 Carrera is also a very fine car.Mike wrote:Reason for my question was due to my limited 74 2.7 Carrera knowledge.
For instance did production run into 1975 for the 2.7?
It shares the same MFI engine. However, there are just a few differentiators that make the ’74 car the one for me.
The 1975 cars came with all black centres on the Fuchs wheels (not detailed petals) and the window frames were in black anodised finish (though silver was still possible as an option I believe).
The headlamp rings were now painted body colour and not the chrome so familiar from the earlier long-hoods.
Finally you lost the option for the iconic ‘ducktail’ spoiler. The rear spoiler on the ‘75 cars was enlarged to become the ‘tea-tray’ version.
The 1975 model was just a little heavier. I understand there was extra sound proofing and additional engine noise insulation. Then there was the increased weight of the larger rear spoiler and the new electric blower for the ventilation system. But ‘ducktail’ aside the ’75 was a great car.

That's quite a nice looking thread hijack.
Can't we have a different area for those sort of discussions?

Thanks Nick, still thread hijacking I know sorry Paul, but what would you expect the earliest dates to be found on a 16" then?Nick Moss wrote:The Carrera 2.7 followed the same production/model year as every other Porsche and was a full production model for 74 and 75. Re: 1974 Carrera Coupe - RHD, UK car
So, the car was originally on 6 & 7's.Ferry Man wrote:As delivered from the factory my car would have been fitted with Fuchs wheels, the fronts would have been 6" wide, the rears 7".
And those were the wheels I had discovered in the crate.
I had the correct wheel combination.
And 6+7 (and the narrow fronts) help retain that delicacy of steering 'feel' Porsche is famous for.
So 6+7 it was.
I asked Early911 to refurbish the wheels back to standard.
And yet a gnawing doubt vexed me. What was it?

Re: 1974 Carrera Coupe - RHD, UK car
It was the realisation that the 6" rims look very different to the 7's.
The 7" wheel has a bevelled return where the outer lip turns back toward the petals.
On the sixes that rim detail is a plain 90 degrees to the outer lip.
So sixes & sevens look all at sixes & sevens. Whereas an eight....
Yes, the eight shares a very similar design to the seven.
Here's a '74 Carrera on 6" fronts & 7" rears:

And here's a car on 7" & 8"'s:

Now it is common knowledge that most '73 RS's were originally configured 6+7 and yet nowadays almost all are 7+8 so maybe others have appreciated the enhanced aesthetics of the wider combination?
Or maybe opinion says that wider rubber makes for better grip and traction?
Anyway, I bought a pair of 8" wide Fuchs too.
The 6's (whilst original to the car) can stay on the shelf, merely retained as part of the cars history.
My rears will become the fronts.

The '74 and '75 both actually came with 6&7x15s with petals as standard and the 7&8s were option M401 which came with black centres for both years. When owners have converted later to 7&8s most have finished them with petals. Black trim was also the 'standard' for both years on the Carrera with chrome a no cost option M446 which included window frames, door handles, headlamp rings, rear window hinges, interior lights and electric window switches. As you say Paul chrome headlamps were fitted to all '74s whether with chrome or black trim. Interestingly the limited run '76 Carrera 2.7 came with chrome as standard.
The front rubber lip spoiler was also added with the whale tail so also extra weight there and not to forget the twin heater knobs on the '75.

Thanks Guy for that snippet.....Interesting, never appreciated the 7's and 8's were standard black centres...however although mine had the chrome option, all the 3 window switches were all black plastic...can't believe the previous owners changed all 3...? I guess I should change them to chrome then....Guy wrote:Ferry Man wrote:Oh yes, the 1975 2.7 Carrera is also a very fine car.Mike wrote:Reason for my question was due to my limited 74 2.7 Carrera knowledge.

I think the 75 also had steel rear arms rather than aluminium?
Guy - Do you know if electric windows were standard or optional for the two years? My 74 Targa has winders.
