Man alive - any of those colours is going to be a winner. Lime Green and Mexi Blue are fantastic, but they've been done again and again.

I'd be torn between Jade Green or Lilac.

OK, before Jamie's imagination runs too wild I'll confirm that I will be painting the car Lime Green.
It’s a period correct shade from the palette offered by Porsche that year. And it looks great.

I will use Lime Green because I want a 911 in a seventies ‘safety’ colour.
Not re-sale ‘safe’, just a bit wild. No point in owning a seventies car in a modern, bland colour.

I’m not restoring the car with an eye on future values, I’m restoring it for me to drive around in.
It may be that a car painted a different colour from the original shade will be worth a few thousand pounds less.
But then again, it may be that a car painted Lime Green will be worth more than a silver one.
So, in summary, it will be Lime Green. And Lime Green will look fabulous.

Hopefully that’s got that out of the way.
Aside from a couple of other minor deviations from the factory specifications the car will be rebuilt as standard. I’ll flag up any of the small modifications as the thread unfolds so all the geeky spotters can rest easy.

Many of these questions will get answered later (and yes Paul, there will be more talk of interiors as the thread progresses).
But for now I can answer some with the 'Certificate of Authenticity'.

I am a PCGB member. Paid up and all. Not fiercely proud of it or anything but a member nevertheless.
And I'm not sure why. It’s costly and seemingly there’s not many benefits in being a member.
True, you do get discounted parts at an OPC but you can probably walk in off the street and haggle that easily enough.
And you do get a magazine every month but it has rather boring content – and you may not believe this – but, on many occasions, I discover old copies I’ve not even bothered to take out of the mailing polybag before discarding.
But my wife fondly believes I should be financially supportive of them (and is convinced my car insurance is cheaper due to my membership) so she kindly sorts the payment each year.
And that did mean I was eligible for one very real benefit. A free Certificate of Authenticity. Yep, free. Entirely free. A pretty good deal.

So I sent off for one for my car. And it turns out that PCGB is slow on it's paperwork. Yes, they took ages to get it done. 4 months in fact.
But you can’t moan if it’s free, can you?

The CoA confirms my car is a Porsche 911. And not much more.

My certificate stands testament to the fact that the factory originally painted the car silver but that Porsche felt that lime green would look better in later years (the last bit I made up).
It also confirms that it remains matching numbers. That was a very big plus.

The specification for the interior is ‘not listed’. So, not much insight there.
The car was finished on the 1st of October, 1973. Which is my birthday. That’s nice isn’t it? I was made before 1973 though.

The certificate lists the headlamp rings as chrome and the windows - rather cryptically – as ‘black trim in chrome’.

Now, interpreting Porsche CoA’s is like deciphering a long lost language.
You need to understand that for 1974 the standard for windows was the newly introduced black anodised frames.
However, the silver finish remained as an option. In fact in the UK the silver may have been the default.
Therefore my certificate appears to indicate that the specification selected was to retain silver windows.

The car was configured with ‘shock and vibration absorber Bilstein’ and an ‘intermittent wiper option’ (both of which were standard on UK Carreras anyway).
The final options listed are: ‘coloured windows’ and ‘sliding roof’. I will translate those two for you: Tinted Windows and a Sunroof.

I think it's worth asking Porsche to revisit the CoA if you think it's wrong; there were some major flaws with mine originally, a bit of prodding and they finally came back with something that looked correct!

As for the colour….I absolutely LOVE LIME GREEN

revisit the CoA if you think it's wrong

Darren, I only really wanted to verify the car remains matching numbers so that news was reward enough.
There are irregularities though, I don't know what a 911/92 engine is? Mine is certainly the correct 911/83.

Back to the collection of the car.
This was made rather complicated by the partial dismantling that had been done but with Nick's help (and that of some of the Scania lads) we negotiated the Carrera onto Early 911's trailer and thence back to Nick's workshop.

We took care to also retrieve the original engine and all the parts set aside in wooden containers.
The previous owner claimed all the parts were there but it was difficult to verify at this stage.

Are you sure a rare and early indicator didn't drop loose along one of those leafy Surrey lanes, that you should go back and retrieve. Perhaps you need the indicator hound Brendan to go check

Have you established if all the parts are in fact there ?

And lime is a great choice.
