OK, before Jamie's imagination runs too wild I'll confirm that I will be painting the car Lime Green.
It’s a period correct shade from the palette offered by Porsche that year. And it looks great.

I will use Lime Green because I want a 911 in a seventies ‘safety’ colour.
Not re-sale ‘safe’, just a bit wild. No point in owning a seventies car in a modern, bland colour.

I’m not restoring the car with an eye on future values, I’m restoring it for me to drive around in.
It may be that a car painted a different colour from the original shade will be worth a few thousand pounds less.
But then again, it may be that a car painted Lime Green will be worth more than a silver one.
So, in summary, it will be Lime Green. And Lime Green will look fabulous.

Hopefully that’s got that out of the way.
Aside from a couple of other minor deviations from the factory specifications the car will be rebuilt as standard. I’ll flag up any of the small modifications as the thread unfolds so all the geeky spotters can rest easy.

Amen to that. So refreshing to hear. It would be easy to look at the current market and think building it to factory spec would be the best in terms of future value but knowing you Paul it's about what you want and the enjoyment you'll get from it.

But just look at all the fantastic colours Porsche offered in 1974! Standard offerings included: Light Yellow, Orange, Mexico Blue, India Red, Desert Beige, Grand Prix White, Chocolate Brown, Peru Red, and Lime Green. Plus a handful of metallics.
And then at least a dozen more shades at extra cost. How about Aubergine? Magenta? Lilac? Jade Green? Raspberry? Olive? Gulf Blue? Truly a wondrous palette of colours. Surely there was never a more colourful time to order a new 911.

Not fancy Grand Prix White? Because it would be well cool to have an invisible car.

I plan to keep mine Sand Beige with the specific intention of making it difficult to sell. I've learnt my lesson.

For what it's worth, a friend is just finishing a Lime Green 74 in the US and it looks fuh-huckin ihhhmense.

Great project and I'm sure it will be beautifully finished. I love green on the 70s cars so I am sure it will look great.

I'm very anti-silver as a rule but saw a very nice 75 Carrera at Steve Monks a little while ago and I have to say it looked stunning with black graphics. I think it is such a lovely car, it will look good in almost any colour.

Looking forward to seeing the finished article.
