Not sure how you all want the ratio of driving to photography to pan out, as photographing cars is certainly not a spectator sport, as anyone who's been generous to supply a car for a magazine shoot will probably testify!

Static shots for John's project are probably best done at the hotel, before everyone disperses. The driving route looks fine, especially if you drive it anti-clockwise, as just after you turn right towards Castleton, there's a good road for tracking shots like this one if organised for it:

Another road I'd certainly suggest you drive and incorporate into your route is the Yorkshire TT:

14 miles, Helmsley to Stokesley, great road to get a driving rhythm going. Watch for Blue Rinse Racing in Prius and Superbike riders.

Thats what I thought Neil as there are plenty of places around teh hotel for photos. Also a few places on the route suitable for static shots for individual cars for a bit of variation.

would this kind of place be suitable ?

Don't think John will be doing any tracking shots , but could be wrong ?

The route is to be done anti-clockwise :)

The yorkshire TT ;) .. ironically one of my pet hate roads , unless driven at the right time of day... but then again I've always prefered the roads in teesdale

Probably no time for tracking shots, people will want to drive their cars, I imagine. Plus if you've not done it before, that's not the time to learn...

Indeed, that road used to be my favourite road many years ago, then some bike or car mag featured it and screwed it for everyone. I flew with the Air Ambulance couple of years back, shooting photography. The pilot has all the landing sites on his personal pocket GPS....

The other link you sent is a good road, would probably be a good route south when departing Sunday.

Probably the best thing is for me to put some waypoint pins on your route for locations for John, then people can discuss whether to meet up at those points / stop for photos etc?

The photo with the BMW in it is the sort of thing that i am looking for, the collection of photos that i am putting together needs to be interesting so the cars in their own enviroment, ideally each car in it's own location or can reuse locations by changing angle etc.

This was a set of photos that i got of my friends 996 Turbo on a trip to Wales:

We did all these in a day and still plenty of time to enjoy the roads : http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnrampto ... 728778236/

This is an option for the evening at the Hotel:

This was shot on the Autobahn out the window of a 996 C4S

But if you are doing this on a road with two way traffic it needs some instruction, what you don't want is a car to appear coming the other way and both drivers of the car with camera and car being shot to slam on at the same time !

This is a shot of a 968 Sport doing a drive by, an option would be for me to be in a lead car and get far enough ahead to be able to be ready for the cars coming past

Image

So ideas for shots:

1. Night time light painting
2. Early morning at the hotel
3. Saturday at location
4. Sunday at location
5. drive by shots
6. Tracking shots (tricky)

John, if we identify which cars you want to photograph, I'm sure we wil form a plan . there are a few interesting places around the hotel that look differnt form each other ( eg woodland at one end , hotel entrance etc )

I know the roads up on the moors so can lead out a few cars etc

Sorry I don't get notified to replies on this post so only see them when I remember. I think I'd like to get through as many of the cars as possible but sounds like I can do maybe 4-5 at the Hotel some more out and about plus other shots as we go around maybe a group shot somewhere might be nice as well. What car are you bringing James is it a modern car ?
